Former NFL WR Vincent Jackson Suffered from 'Chronic Alcoholism,' per Sheriff
Former NFL wide receiver Vincent Jackson suffered from chronic alcoholism, Hillsborough County Sheriff Chad Chronister said Wednesday.
Chronister told Q105's MJ Morning Show (via Scott Reynolds of PewterReport.com) authorities haven't received the full toxicology report but that Jackson's autopsy showed "longstanding health conditions" stemming from alcohol use.
According to Chronister, Jackson's family also expressed concerns about the toll concussions he suffered during his playing career took on his body. They wondered whether he was suffering from chronic traumatic encephalopathy.
The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner, however, said there is no official autopsy at this time and that "it will likely be several months before the final report is complete," per Greg Auman of The Athletic.
Jackson's family also issued a statement on the matter, noting it has been told that it will take some time for the autopsy to be completed.
"The official autopsy of Vincent Jackson has not been completed and the family has been told the full autopsy report will not be available for weeks."
The 38-year-old was found dead Monday in a hotel room at Homewood Suites in Brandon, Florida. He had been staying at the hotel since Jan. 11.
His family filed a missing persons report, which was subsequently canceled after officers located and spoke with Jackson at the hotel on Feb. 12.
Jackson spent 12 seasons in the NFL, playing seven years with the San Diego Chargers and five years with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He was a three-time Pro Bowler, and his 4,326 receiving yards are fourth-most in Buccaneers history.
