Carolina Hurricanes

GoucheNov 16, 2009

It was anything but pretty but when it was all said and done on Sunday afternoon the Carolina Hurricanes gained the much needed two points. Attempting to salvage their season which has gone south, Carolina who surrendered leads of 3-0 and 4-1 got a shootout goal from forward Jussi Jokinen to lead the Hurricanes to a 5-4 win at home against the Minnesota Wild. With the two points you can bet that all Carolina players, management and fans were breathing a deep sigh of relief as they snapped an ugly 14 games losing streak. A second reason for excitement is that the Hurricanes who are still 10 points out of a playoff position finally had a breakthrough on what to this point has been a struggling power play. Producing with the man advantage were Joe Corvo, Ray Whitney and Brandon Sutter. Carolina who now have three wins in nineteen games this season also got an even strength goal from Jokinen. With this fourteen game winless streak now a thing of the past Carolina who went (0-10-4) during that time will not eclipse the earlier franchise record for futility. This record was set way back in 1992 when the Canes who were known as the Hartford Whalers back endured a fourteen games winless streak. Prior to Sunday, the Hurricanes last tasted victory on October 9 when they easily defeated the Florida Panthers 7-2.
