Bears Rumors: WR Ted Ginn Jr. Released from Contract After Less Than 1 Season

Tim DanielsNov 4, 2020

The Chicago Bears reportedly released wide receiver Ted Ginn Jr. following Tuesday's NFL trade deadline after just six appearances with the organization.

ESPN's Adam Schefter reported the news Wednesday.

Ginn signed with the Bears in May to serve as a depth receiver and punt returner.

The 35-year-old Ohio State product made a limited impact in that role during the season's first half. He recorded three catches on six targets for 40 yards with no touchdowns. He returned five punts for 24 yards.

His departure doesn't come as a surprise after Chicago signed Dwayne Harris in late October and then promoted him from the practice squad last week. Harris handled all three punt returns in the team's Week 8 loss to the New Orleans Saints.

Ginn will look to land elsewhere after bouncing around the league since the Miami Dolphins selected him in the first round of the 2007 draft. He's also played for the San Francisco 49ers, Carolina Panthers, Arizona Cardinals and New Orleans Saints.

"I can still run," Ginn told reporters after signing with the Bears. "That's my attribute. I can run. I can catch. I can jump. Don't let the age and the years fool you."

He probably won't make much of an impact as a wideout at this stage of his career—he's topped 700 receiving yards four times—but he can still serve as a No. 4 or 5 receiver in addition to work on special teams.
