Week 7 Fantasy Football Rankings: Breaking Down Each Position
On Monday night, Kyler Murray reminded a national audience why he's one of the most fun quarterbacks to watch in the NFL—and why he's one of the top fantasy football quarterbacks in the league.
The 23-year-old passed for two touchdowns and rushed for another in a dominant showing for the Arizona Cardinals' offense in a 38-10 road win over the Dallas Cowboys. It was a one-sided matchup pretty much from the start. But that's unlikely to be the case again in Week 7.
On Sunday, the Cardinals are set to host the NFC West-rival Seattle Seahawks. Both teams have top-10 offenses in the league this season, and there are a lot of players on both sides who should be in fantasy lineups this week.
Murray and Arizona could be in store for another big offensive performance, too, as Seattle is allowing an NFL-high 471.2 total yards per game.
As the season heads to Week 7, here's an early position-by-position look at fantasy rankings for the upcoming week.
Quarterback Rankings
1 of 6
1. Patrick Mahomes, Kansas City Chiefs (at DEN)
2. Deshaun Watson, Houston Texans (vs. GB)
3. Kyler Murray, Arizona Cardinals (vs. SEA)
4. Russell Wilson, Seattle Seahawks (at ARI)
5. Josh Allen, Buffalo Bills (at NYJ)
6. Aaron Rodgers, Green Bay Packers (at HOU)
7. Justin Herbert, Los Angeles Chargers (vs. JAX)
8. Matt Ryan, Atlanta Falcons (vs. DET)
9. Joe Burrow, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. CLE)
10. Matthew Stafford, Detroit Lions (at ATL)
11. Cam Newton, New England Patriots (vs. SF)
12. Tom Brady, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at LV)
In case you forgot during the Chargers' Week 6 bye, Justin Herbert has established himself as a strong fantasy option at quarterback through the first four games of his rookie season.
In his first two games, the 22-year-old eclipsed the 300-yard passing mark each time. In his past two games, he's passed for three and four touchdowns, respectively.
Coming off the bye, Los Angeles is set to host Jacksonville, which should provide the opportunity for Herbert to continue his impressive play. The Jaguars are allowing the seventh-most passing yards in the NFL (270.7 yards per game), so the Oregon product should have no trouble airing it out.
Despite his strong start, Herbert is still rostered in only 54 percent of Yahoo leagues and 46 percent of ESPN leagues. So, not only is he a strong play this week, but he's also one of the best streaming options and should be picked up for fantasy managers dealing with byes and/or injuries to their quarterbacks.
Running Back Rankings
2 of 6
1. Alvin Kamara, New Orleans Saints (vs. CAR)
2. Aaron Jones, Green Bay Packers (at HOU)
3. Mike Davis, Carolina Panthers (at NO)
4. Derrick Henry, Tennessee Titans (vs. PIT)
5. Kareem Hunt, Cleveland Browns (at CIN)
6. Ezekiel Elliott, Dallas Cowboys (at WAS)
7. Joe Mixon, Cincinnati Bengals (vs. CLE)
8. Ronald Jones II, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at LV)
9. David Montgomery, Chicago Bears (at LAR)
10. Todd Gurley II, Atlanta Falcons (vs. DET)
11. Chris Carson, Seattle Seahawks (at ARI)
12. James Conner, Pittsburgh Steelers (at TEN)
Entering Week 6, Derrick Henry had scored a pair of touchdowns in each of his previous two games. But we hadn't quite seen a huge performance for the Titans running back, one monster game in which he not only scored a bunch but also racked up a ton of yards.
That happened against the Texans this past Sunday, as the 26-year-old had 264 yards (212 coming on the ground) and another two touchdowns in the Titans' overtime victory. And once he gets going, he can be difficult to stop. So, fantasy managers should continue to reap the benefits in the upcoming weeks.
It's not necessarily going to be easy for Henry in Week 7, though. Tennessee is going up against Pittsburgh, which is giving up only 66.2 rushing yards per game, ranking second in the NFL. And in Week 6, the Steelers shut down the Browns' rushing attack, which has been one of the best in the league.
Still, the Alabama product is a must-start player every week. He can find ways to get it done even against tough defenses. Plus, his involvement in the passing game could help him put up big numbers even if he struggles a bit on the ground.
Wide Receiver Rankings
3 of 6
1. DeAndre Hopkins, Arizona Cardinals (vs. SEA)
2. Davante Adams, Green Bay Packers (at HOU)
3. Michael Thomas, New Orleans Saints (vs. CAR)
4. Julio Jones, Atlanta Falcons (vs. DET)
5. Calvin Ridley, Atlanta Falcons (vs. DET)
6. Tyreek Hill, Kansas City Chiefs (at DEN)
7. Kenny Golladay, Detroit Lions (at ATL)
8. Tyler Lockett, Seattle Seahawks (at ARI)
9. Mike Evans, Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at LV)
10. DK Metcalf, Seattle Seahawks (at ARI)
11. Amari Cooper, Dallas Cowboys (at WAS)
12. Odell Beckham Jr., Cleveland Browns (at CIN)
Numerous top fantasy receivers have been dealing with injuries of late, but several returned to action in Week 6. None did it in more impressive fashion than Julio Jones, though, who had eight receptions for 137 yards and two touchdowns in the Falcons' win over the Vikings. Those were also his first touchdowns of the season.
The 31-year-old should have no trouble keeping it going in what is likely to be another favorable matchup for Atlanta's offense against Detroit, which has been beatable both through the air and on the ground this season.
Packers receiver Davante Adams also returned to the field in Week 6, hauling in six passes for 61 yards in a loss to the Buccaneers. Expect a better performance in Week 7, when Green Bay takes on Houston, which ranks 30th in the NFL in total defense (423 yards allowed per game).
It will also be important to monitor the status of Saints receiver Michael Thomas, who hasn't played since Week 1 due to an ankle injury. He should be immediately reinserted into fantasy lineups whenever he returns, which could be this week.
Tight End Rankings
4 of 6
1. Travis Kelce, Kansas City Chiefs (at DEN)
2. George Kittle, San Francisco 49ers (at NE)
3. Darren Waller, Las Vegas Raiders (vs. TB)
4. T.J. Hockenson, Detroit Lions (at ATL)
5. Hunter Henry, Los Angeles Chargers (vs. JAX)
6. Robert Tonyan, Green Bay Packers (at HOU)
7. Noah Fant, Denver Broncos (vs. KC)
8. Evan Engram, New York Giants (at PHI)
9. Austin Hooper, Cleveland Browns (at CIN)
10. Hayden Hurst, Atlanta Falcons (vs. DET)
11. Jared Cook, New Orleans Saints (vs. CAR)
12. Jonnu Smith, Tennessee Titans (vs. PIT)
T.J. Hockenson may not be putting up a ton of yards, but he's consistently finding his way into the end zone. He's scored a touchdown in three of the Lions' first five games, which includes each of the past two. And when it's been hard to find many consistent tight ends, that makes him a player worth starting every week.
Although the 23-year-old only has four receptions for 26 yards in Detroit's past two games, he should be more involved this week. The Lions are taking on the Falcons, who rank 31st in the NFL in passing defense (335.3 yards allowed per game).
Defense/Special Teams Rankings
5 of 6
1. Kansas City Chiefs (at DEN)
2. Philadelphia Eagles (vs. NYG)
3. Buffalo Bills (at NYJ)
4. New England Patriots (vs. SF)
5. Los Angeles Rams (vs. CHI)
6. Los Angeles Chargers (vs. JAX)
7. New Orleans Saints (vs. CAR)
8. Cleveland Browns (at CIN)
9. Green Bay Packers (at HOU)
10. Dallas Cowboys (at WAS)
11. Tennessee Titans (vs. PIT)
12. Tampa Bay Buccaneers (at LV)
The top two fantasy defenses in the NFL are both on byes (the Baltimore Ravens and Indianapolis Colts), so a lot of managers will be looking to stream a defense this week. One strong option could be the Eagles, who have a favorable matchup against the NFC East-rival Giants.
New York is averaging only 275.3 total yards per game (tied for least in the NFL with Washington) and its 10 turnovers are tied for fourth most in the league. Philadelphia's defense has been in the middle of the pack, but it has some strong players on its pass rush and could capitalize on this matchup.
However, if you're going to stream the Eagles' defense, remember to commit to them early, as they're playing in the Thursday night matchup this week.
Kicker Rankings
6 of 6
1. Harrison Butker, Kansas City Chiefs (at DEN)
2. Wil Lutz, New Orleans Saints (vs. CAR)
3. Greg Zuerlein, Dallas Cowboys (at WAS)
4. Jake Elliott, Philadelphia Eagles (vs. NYG)
5. Sam Sloman, Los Angeles Rams (vs. CHI)
6. Matt Prater, Detroit Lions (at ATL)
7. Younghoe Koo, Atlanta Falcons (vs. DET)
8. Joey Slye, Carolina Panthers (at NO)
9. Robbie Gould, San Francisco 49ers (at NE)
10. Zane Gonzalez, Arizona Cardinals (vs. SEA)
11. Jason Myers, Seattle Seahawks (at ARI)
12. Josh Lambo, Jacksonville Jaguars (at LAC)
Need a young kicker to keep an eye on who could be on the verge of breaking out? Make sure to monitor Sam Sloman, the Rams rookie who hasn't gotten a ton of opportunities in recent weeks. He's only attempted one field goal in each of Los Angeles' past three games, but he's made all of them.
The 23-year-old is available in nearly all fantasy leagues, so if you have a kicker on a bye one week (or a kicker who is underperforming), it could be worth taking a chance on this rookie.
