NFL Week 4 Predictions: Early Projections for Vegas' Odds, Lines and Spreads

Kristopher KnoxSep 28, 2020

Sunday's slate of NFL action featured a couple of surprises, a tie between the Cincinnati Bengals and Philadelphia Eagles not least among them. Based on Sunday's odds, four underdogs won outright. The Miami Dolphins upset the Jacksonville Jaguars on Thursday night, and the Kansas City Chiefs will have a chance to make it six outright upsets on Monday night.

Adding in the aforementioned tie and a close cover by the Minnesota Vikings, Week 3 was perhaps the most unpredictable week of NFL action yet.

Week 4 could bring more of the same, however, as several contests appear to be evenly matched on paper. Here, you'll find a look at the entire slate, along with the latest lines and over/unders from DraftKings Sportsbook, and the latest predictions for every game.

Seattle Seahawks and Miami Dolphins OVER 54.5 Points

If the Dolphins proved anything during their win over Jacksonville, it's that their offense can be explosive when things are clicking. Quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick and the Dolphins offense dropped 31 points on the Jaguars, and they could have similar success against the Seattle Seahawks.

Seattle came into Week 3 ranked dead-last in pass defense and 20th in scoring defense. It surrendered 472 passing yards to Dak Prescott on Sunday to go with 31 Dallas Cowboys points.

Of course, the Seahawks can rack up the yards and points themselves, and quarterback Russell Wilson is the early MVP candidate to watch. He threw for 315 yards and five touchdowns against Dallas and now has 14 touchdowns and just one interception on the season.

This all sets the stage for a potential scoring frenzy in Miami next week. While the over/under of 54.5 is on the high side, these two teams should surpass the line with ease.

Los Angeles Rams (-11.5) vs. New York Giants

The Los Angeles Rams are giving up the second-most points of any team in Week 4, but they still look like a smart play at home. The New York Giants will have to travel cross-country for this one, and they're already on the verge of collapse.

Losing running back Saquon Barkley for the season may have broken the Giants. They barely put up a fight against an injury-decimated San Francisco 49ers team on Sunday, They're not likely to fare much better against Los Angeles.

"Joe Judge is 0-3 after Sunday's disgrace of a 36-9 loss to the 49ers' B team and he has every reason to wonder when and whether he and his 2020 New York Football Giants will get it," Steve Serby of the New York Post wrote.

It is fair to wonder when New York will steal a victory. It's not going to happen next week against a Rams team that seems to have bounced back from last year's disappointing season. While the Rams narrowly lost to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, they put up 32 points on a good Buffalo defense and were just a play or two—and arguably, a bad interference call—away from pulling off the road upset.

Expect Los Angeles to take out its frustration on the Giants next week.

San Francisco 49ers (-6) vs. Philadelphia Eagles

The Eagles are in as much of a tailspin as the Giants. While they're slightly better in the record department, 0-2-1 isn't exactly where Carson Wentz and Co. would like to be right now.

Part of the problem has been Wentz himself. He has played nothing like the Pro Bowl-caliber quarterback he was back in 2017 and at times has looked downright lost on the field.

Through three weeks, Wentz has passed for 737 yards with three touchdowns and six interceptions. He has a paltry passer rating of just 63.9.

Wentz and the Eagles offense couldn't do enough to notch a win over the rebuilding Cincinnati Bengals. It's hard to envision them standing up to San Francisco on the road—even if the 49ers are perhaps the most injury-riddled squad in the NFL right now.

San Francisco mustered enough offense with Nick Mullens under center to drop 36 points on the Giants. The 49ers should have similar success against an Eagles defense that just surrendered 23 points to rookie quarterback Joe Burrow and the Bengals.

While this one might not be as one-sided as the Giants contest, San Francisco should win by at least a touchdown.
