Booking WWE Raw and SmackDown for the Week of Feb. 17

The Doctor Chris MuellerFeb 16, 2020

The most recent episodes of Raw and SmackDown saw a great deal of progression toward setting up the major feuds that will take place over the next several weeks.

Some of what we saw was designed to hype Super ShowDown on February 27, like Hulk Hogan's segment with Bray Wyatt, but we are also seeing storylines that will go through Elimination Chamber and WrestleMania 36.

Shayna Baszler attacking Becky Lynch and biting her in the neck garnered a lot of varying reactions on social media, with some saying the segment did not fit with The Queen of Spades' character while others praised WWE for doing something unexpected.

Unfortunately, Otis' date with Mandy Rose did not happen because of Dolph Ziggler. The WWE Universe is invested in this storyline, and seeing the Heavy Machinery member so sad on Valentine's Day broke a lot of hearts.

We already know of a few things the coming week will bring. Raw will feature Matt Hardy vs. Randy Orton and the team of Bobby Lashley and Angel Garza taking on Rusev and Humberto Carrillo. On SmackDown, Naomi will face Carmella for a women's title shot at Super ShowDown.

Let's take a look at what direction WWE should take with certain storylines this week.

Riddick Moss vs. Mojo Rawley

1 of 7

Mojo Rawley recruited Riddick Moss to act as his enforcer after he won the 24/7 Championship from R-Truth. That union lasted all of two weeks.

After Rawley and Moss suffered a tag team loss on Raw, the newcomer rolled up Rawley to win his first title in WWE.

The crowd has yet to be given any kind of history or backstory on Moss' character. Monday's show needs to be about properly introducing him to the WWE Universe.

A promo and a match with Rawley for the belt would be a good start. If he is intended to be on the main roster moving forward, management can't waste time. If the crowd doesn't get to know him soon, it will have no reason to care.

AOP vs. Viking Raiders

2 of 7

Until the final blowoff match, we are going to see every combination possible involving The Viking Raiders, Kevin Owens, Samoa Joe, AOP, Seth Rollins and Murphy.

The two established duos in this scenario should be the ones feuding over the tag titles, but since that is not the case, WWE should start building their rivalry with a standard tag team match Monday.

Despite their time in NXT overlapping, AOP and The Viking Raiders have not been in the ring together often. It was wise to keep them apart at first, but now that they are all former Raw tag team champions, it's time to kickstart this rivalry.

Rollins, Murphy, Joe and Owens have their own thing going on. Erik, Ivar, Akam and Rezar can begin their program while all eight men continue to be involved in the same overarching storyline.

Shayna Baszler Speaks

3 of 7

Baszler's move to Raw after doing everything she could in NXT did not come as a surprise, but the way she arrived caught a lot of people off guard.

To use some classic Attitude Era stars as examples, the MMA practitioner looked more like Gangrel than Ken Shamrock when she bit into the back of Lynch's neck.

The image of what was clearly fake blood pouring out of her mouth was something we are not used to seeing on WWE television.

The Man returned to the arena after the attack to deliver a promo directed at The Queen of Spades. Now it's Baszler's turn to say what is on her mind.

Whether it's an in-ring promo or a backstage interview, she needs to explain why she attacked the champ in such a violent and unexpected way.

Ruby Riott vs. Liv Morgan

4 of 7

As soon as Ruby Riott's music hit and she approached the ring following Liv Morgan and Lana's match Feb. 3, everyone knew it would not be a happy reunion.

WWE did the exact same return angle with Sasha Banks and Natalya a few months ago, but that doesn't mean it was any less entertaining.

Riott was sorely missed during her time away from the ring, and putting her into a feud with her former Riott Squad teammate was a smart way to bring her back into the fold. Morgan has been great since returning with a new look, and this is a chance for both women to show the world they are just as good as rivals as they were when they were partners.

This feud will likely see them square off several times, so WWE shouldn't waste any time. Put them in the ring together and let's see what happens.

Tucker vs. Dolph Ziggler

5 of 7

If we are being honest with ourselves, the most engaging storyline going in WWE is the blossoming relationship between Otis and Mandy Rose.

Unfortunately, Valentine's Day did not live up to expectations, as Ziggler swooped in and appeared to hijack the date. The look on Otis' face when he saw them together told the entire story.

Tucker has been more supportive of Otis' pursuit of Rose in recent weeks and has been playing a great wingman. As his best friend, Tucker probably feels like it is his duty to step in.

A singles match between Tucker and Ziggler would allow this story to continue in a way that makes sense while we wait for the eventual showdown between The Showoff and The Dozer.

It will be interesting to see how Rose responds to what happened Friday and how Otis reacts to her explanation. This is the love story we need in 2020, but knowing WWE, it will probably end in heartbreak.

Daniel Bryan vs. John Morrison

6 of 7

John Morrison has had the opportunity to face a lot of people since he returned to WWE. Before he challenges The New Day for the SmackDown tag titles at Super ShowDown, it would be great to see him get to fight the man he faced in a tag team match last time out.

Daniel Bryan crossed paths with Morrison a few times almost 10 years ago, but they were never long-term rivals. With Bryan and The Miz having so much shared history, it would make sense to put The Yes Man and The Friday Night Delight in the ring together.

Bryan is in the process of transitioning from one storyline to the next, so he can be put into a few random matches before WWE decides on a direction for his character.

The Miz vs. Big E

7 of 7

While Morrison is busy fighting Bryan, The Miz should be focusing on their feud with The New Day by having a singles match with Big E.

The New Day was absent from Friday's SmackDown while The Miz and Morrison took on The Big Dog and The Yes Man, so the tag title feud was put on the back-burner.

Another option would be to involve Reigns, The Usos and King Corbin's little group, but we have seen several multi-man matches with them recently.

Reigns and Corbin should take a week off from being in the same ring so that they can build a little tension before their cage match at Super ShowDown.
