The WWE Universe may be thinking about the TLC: Tables, Ladders and Chairs pay-per-view in December, but the focus on big-picture booking has already turned to the 2019 edition of the Royal Rumble taking place on January 26, 2020, in Houston.

As the first step on the road to WrestleMania 36, fans have shifted their attention to who will win the men's and women's 30-strong Battle Royals, which Superstar will step up to challenge Bray Wyatt and what role Brock Lesnar will play at the PPV.

Here are the biggest storylines to track on the road to the Royal Rumble.

Early Front-Runners for Royal Rumble Wins

1 of 3

Regardless of who is wearing the championships heading into the January event, the WWE Universe is looking forward to who walks out victorious in the Royal Rumble matches.

On the men's side, the field is wide open as Bray Wyatt and Brock Lesnar hold the Universal and WWE Championships, respectively. An early favorite appears to be Roman Reigns, whose recent lack of success could lead to a surprise win and main event match.

Other male stars with a shot to win include Kevin Owens, Seth Rollins, Daniel Bryan and Aleister Black. And don't forget the ultimate dark horse, CM Punk.

On the women's side, there is a clearer option: Ronda Rousey. With an obvious path to Becky Lynch and vengeance for last year's WrestleMania main event on her mind, the surprise return of the former UFC star in the Battle Royal and a stunning victory would build major hype for WWE on the Road to WrestleMania.

The men's and women's Battle Royals are two of the most important matches of the year, and fans can't wait to see who walks out with a guaranteed title shot.

Can Anyone Stop The Fiend?

Since his re-debut as The Fiend, there are few wrestlers on earth with as much momentum as Bray Wyatt. After no-selling finishers and winning the Universal Championship, the WWE Universe wants to know who is next to challenge the champion.

Bryan has been the one to push The Fiend recently, and he will likely tangle with Wyatt again at TLC on December 15. While the feud could be over then, WWE Creative must find a way to keep the program alive into January.

Bryan has gotten the most out of Wyatt over the years and will need to capture that magic again to keep this feud alive until it culminates at Royal Rumble. With the Raw and SmackDown rosters looking to win the Battle Royal, Wyatt needs to stay busy with Bryan.

After Bryan takes another loss to The Fiend and the winner of the Royal Rumble is crowned, Wyatt can shift his WrestleMania focus to his new challenger.

What Role Will Brock Lesnar Play?

Defeating Rey Mysterio at Survivor Series made for a very interesting matchup, but wrestling fans have started to wonder what Brock Lesnar will do at the January PPV. The WWE champion has performed at every Royal Rumble event since 2014.

The 2020 edition will be no different, but who will be the next the challenger for the world title?

According to TalkSport, WWE Creative is considering two possible options for Lesnar at WrestleMania: a rubber match against Cain Velasquez or a special-attraction bout against Tyson Fury.

Regardless of which direction the company takes Lesnar for the company's biggest show of the year, the first step in the storyline should come at Royal Rumble. Velasquez or Fury should make a major impact on the January show by beating down The Beast.
