Fantasy Football Week 11 Waiver Wire Must-Adds
The Cleveland Browns went into Week 10 with the 23rd-ranked scoring offense. But after their 19-16 win over the Buffalo Bills, this unit has another playmaker worth adding to your fantasy roster.
Going forward, we could see Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield throw more short passes to neutralize opposing pass-rushers, avoid interceptions and allow an explosive running back to extend plays after the catch. This doesn't mean Nick Chubb's fantasy value will take a hit, but owners in point-per-reception leagues should make room for his running mate in the flex spot.
Tight end is largely a barren wasteland this year, but a familiar face has put together a string of solid outings when healthy. He's worth a look for the remainder of the season if you're cycling through a new player at the position every week.
We'll take a look at six must-have waiver-wire pickups who are owned in fewer than 75 percent of Yahoo pools as of Monday 3 a.m. ET. The free-agent acquisition bids are based on $100 budgets in 12-team leagues.
QB Derek Carr, Oakland Raiders (44 Percent Owned)
1 of 6
If you picked up Derek Carr last week to beat the rush of managers who will target him ahead of his favorable matchup with the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 11, just plug him into your lineup. He's ready to tear through one of the league's worst pass defenses, which ranked 22nd coming into Week 10 and gave up three touchdowns to the Baltimore Ravens on Sunday.
Carr didn't have his best showing against the Los Angeles Chargers on Thursday, throwing for only 218 yards and one touchdown pass, but he should feast on the Bengals. He hasn't thrown an interception since Week 7, and Cincinnati has only one takeaway in its last three games.
Carr threw multiple touchdown passes in three straight games prior to Thursday's outing against the Chargers. Furthermore, the Raiders' aerial attack has featured more than only tight end Darren Waller and wideout Tyrell Williams in recent weeks.
Since Week 8, Hunter Renfrow has led the team in catches (14), receiving yards (184) and touchdowns (two). Running back Jalen Richard is tied for second in receptions (nine) and third in yards (123) during that span.
Carr is a high-end streamer for the next two weeks. Cincinnati will have difficulty slowing down Oakland's aerial attack, and the same likely holds true for the New York Jets' 26th-ranked pass defense in Week 12.
Free-Agent Acquisition Budget (FAAB): $8
RB Kareem Hunt, Cleveland Browns (71 Percent Owned)
2 of 6
Kareem Hunt made his season debut with the Browns on Sunday. Although he took a backseat to Nick Chubb on the ground, logging only four carries for 30 yards, the third-year tailback caught seven passes on nine targets for 44 yards.
Hunt finished third on the team in targets, trailing only wideouts Odell Beckham Jr. (12) and Jarvis Landry (10). Fantasy managers can expect him to handle a similar target share moving forward because of the coaching staff's willingness to move him around the formation, as Mary Kay Cabot of Cleveland.com noted.
"Hunt played in 38 of the Browns' 66 snaps, 24 in the backfield, nine in the slot and five out wide. On 28 plays (43 percent), Hunt and Chubb appeared in the backfield together in 'pony personnel,' according to Next Gen Stats. It proved to be a lethal combo, with Hunt leading the way for Chubb."
Hunt is a proven pass-catcher out of the backfield, having hauled in 79 catches for 833 yards and 10 touchdowns in his two years with the Kansas City Chiefs.
Don't panic if Hunt doesn't get 10-plus carries every week. He should have a solid workload in the short passing game that helps him post RB2 or flex-level numbers.
FAAB Amount: $12
RB J.D. McKissic, Detroit Lions (21 Percent Owned)
3 of 6
Detroit Lions running back Ty Johnson exited Sunday's game with a concussion. If he doesn't suit up against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 11, J.D. McKissic is a full go as an RB2.
In Johnson's absence, McKissic would likely handle a bulk of the carries along with pass-catching duties. The fourth-year veteran led the team in rushing attempts (10) Sunday against the Chicago Bears.
Even if Johnson returns to action, McKissic is still worth a pickup for flex spots in PPR leagues. He hauled in nine catches for 59 yards and a touchdown over his last two games.
According to ESPN's Adam Schefter, Lions quarterback Matthew Stafford has broken bones in his back and didn't receive clearance to suit up in Week 10. If Stafford is out for at least another game, McKissic could see an uptick in targets with Driskel checking down on short passes.
In Week 10, McKissic logged only 19 receiving yards, but he led the Lions in catches (six). Perhaps the 26-year-old will have more success in the passing game against the Cowboys, who allowed seven receptions and 86 yards to Minnesota Vikings tailback Dalvin Cook on Sunday.
If you're desperate for a streamer running back who can score 10-plus points, McKissic might fill that void.
FAAB Amount: $5
WR Terry McLaurin, Washington Redskins (67 Percent Owned)
4 of 6
Fantasy managers might have decided to drop Terry McLaurin because Washington was on bye in Week 10 and he struggled in Weeks 7-9. However, he deserves a roster spot despite the team's change under center.
On Monday, head coach Bill Callahan announced rookie quarterback Dwayne Haskins will be the starting quarterback moving forward. He'll face the Jets in Week 11, which is a good matchup for a first-year signal-caller trying to find his rhythm in the pocket.
The Jets surrendered 308 yards and four touchdowns to New York Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones on Sunday. Jones has more regular-season experience than Haskins, but the latter should be able to establish a rapport with his No. 1 wideout and former Ohio State teammate.
After logging a touchdown in each of his first three games, McLaurin hasn't eclipsed 39 receiving yards in any of his last three outings. But if anyone will go off against the Jets' porous pass defense, it's likely to be him. He leads the team in catches (32), receiving yards (497) and touchdowns (five) heading into Week 11.
The Jets have allowed 16 scores through the air this season and have given up at least 249 passing yards in each of their last four games.
FAAB Amount: $10
WR Marquise Brown, Baltimore Ravens (71 Percent Owned)
5 of 6
Now healthy, Marquise Brown belongs in your starting lineup.
He missed two games with an ankle injury and caught only three passes for 48 yards against the New England Patriots in Week 9. But on Sunday, Brown bounced back with four receptions for 80 yards and a score against the Bengals in a favorable matchup.
The rookie wideout won't face much resistance against the Houston Texans in Week 11, either. Going into their Week 10 bye, the Texans pass defense ranked 27th in yards allowed and had given up 18 touchdowns.
Houston acquired cornerback Gareon Conley from the Raiders via trade in late October, but he'll need time to settle in with the defense. Fellow cover man Johnathan Joseph has seemed to lose a step, which partially explains the Texans' coverage issues on the perimeter. Lastly, defensive end J.J. Watt is on injured reserve with a torn pectoral, which is a huge blow to the pass rush.
Quarterback Lamar Jackson should have ample time in the pocket Sunday, which will allow plays to develop downfield. That bodes well for Brown, an electric deep threat who's averaging 16.2 yards per catch.
FAAB Amount: $10
TE Jared Cook, New Orleans Saints (65 Percent Owned)
6 of 6
Quarterback Drew Brees and Jared Cook didn't connect at high volume in the first two weeks of the season (four receptions for 62 yards) before the former underwent thumb surgery. The latter then missed two games prior to the Saints' Week 9 bye because of an ankle ailment.
In their surprising 26-9 home loss against the Atlanta Falcons on Sunday, Brees and Cook hooked up six times for 74 yards. The tight end tied running back Alvin Kamara for second on the team in targets (10).
Before he went down with his ankle injury, Cook scored in consecutive outings with backup quarterback Teddy Bridgewater under center. Although he didn't reach paydirt against the Falcons on Sunday, the 11th-year veteran remains fantasy relevant with Brees back at the helm.
In the coming weeks, Cook could establish himself as the Saints' No. 3 pass-catching option behind wide receiver Michael Thomas and Kamara. If you were frustrated with his meager early-season production, take another chance on him while he's viable in New Orleans' aerial attack.
