As one of WWE's longest-running events, Survivor Series is a highly anticipated pay-per-view, especially when it comes to the elimination matches the show is known for.

This year's Survivor Series is different than any that have come before because for the first time, NXT will face off with Raw and SmackDown in the battle for brand supremacy.

Triple H has been leading the charge as NXT Superstars have invaded Raw and SmackDown for the past two weeks. We have even seen key NXT stars pick up wins over big names on the main roster.

Adam Cole shined when he beat Seth Rollins and Daniel Bryan in two separate matches and Shayna Baszler has been making her mark on the women's division.

While the NXT storyline will dominate the show, Survivor Series will also feature some feuds that are confined to their own brands like Rey Mysterio vs. Brock Lesnar.

Let's look at the most intriguing storylines leading into this year's Survivor Series PPV.

Lana's Love Triangle

1 of 4

The most controversial storyline going in WWE today is Lana's love triangle with Rusev and Bobby Lashley. Hardcore fans online seem to hate it but the Youtube views for these segments tell a different story.

The video above is from the October 28 episode of Raw and has over 7.3 million views as of this writing. The second most-watched segment from the same night was Asuka and Kairi Sane turning on Paige with just over 1.2 million views. The lauded match between AJ Styles and Humberto Carrillo received just over one million.

This means more people are watching a segment involving an affair between Lana and Lashley than are watching two gifted Superstars do what they do best in the ring. In fact, it's more than seven times the amount.

Numbers like these are why this storyline continues to get so much attention on television. Wrestling twitter might not like it, but the general public has shown interest.

Rusev and Lashley will either end up in a singles match at Survivor Series or, if WWE wants to extend this story through another PPV, they will have to be on the same Survivor Series team.

The NXT Invasion

For the past couple of weeks, NXT Superstars have been showing up on Raw and SmackDown to cause havoc and prove they shouldn't just be seen as the developmental system anymore.

Triple H is the frontman and Shawn Michaels has been by his side, but The Undisputed Era and Shayna Baszler are the faces of each division and have been bringing it every chance they get.

Cole's wins over Bryan and Rollins were some of the biggest shots fired in this battle, but Baszler may have made the biggest impact with her face-to-face confrontation with Becky Lynch on the November 4 episode of Raw.

The NXT women's champion is set to face Lynch and Bayley at Survivor Series in a triple threat match. No titles will be on the line but everyone's pride will be at stake.

Lynch has been the face of the division, Bayley is showing a brand new side of herself and Baszler has dominated NXT for over a year. All three women want to think they are the best and Survivor Series will give one of them the chance to make that claim.

Brock Lesnar and Rey Mysterio's Blood Feud

3 of 4

Lesnar attacking Dominic Mysterio may have kickstarted his current feud with Rey, but The Beast and The Master of the 619 have a history going all the way back to 2003.

When Lesnar was ruling over WWE as its champion at the end of that year, he and Mysterio met for a match on SmackDown. The two had once been friends but Lesnar's heel turn made them enemies.

Flash forward 16 years and Lesnar made the high-flyer into an enemy once again by attacking his son and leaving both men battered and bruised.

Mysterio brought in Cain Velasquez but The Beast defeated him at Crown Jewel. Now it's up to the ultimate underdog to dethrone the WWE champion.

Lesnar works well with smaller competitors so this should be a fun match regardless of who ends up winning.

Will Daniel Bryan Join Sami Zayn or Be Taken out by The Fiend?

4 of 4

Sami Zayn has been attempting to get Daniel Bryan to join his growing stable with Shinsuke Nakamura and Cesaro. Bryan has remained silent but Friday's events may force him to seek out allies.

As Zayn was trying to speak with Bryan backstage, Bray Wyatt appeared suddenly and attacked The Yes Man with the Mandible Claw.

Wyatt is clearly moving on from his last feud with Rollins and Bryan is a great choice for his first SmackDown feud, especially if Bryan ends up taking Zayn up on his offer so he can be protected.

The Fiend will address his actions on the next episode of Firefly Fun House and it will likely lead to a match between the two at Survivor Series.

If Zayn were to help him win the Universal Championship somehow, Bryan might feel obligated to join his group. Then again, Bryan might join the group only to end up as another picture on Wyatt's wall of victims.
