Philip Rivers, Chargers Will Reportedly Try to Work out Contract Extension
The Los Angeles Chargers want to sign quarterback Philip Rivers to a contract extension, according to Adam Schefter of ESPN on Saturday.
Rivers, 37, has one year left on his deal. He threw 32 touchdown passes and led the Bolts to a 12-4 record and an AFC Divisional Round playoff appearance in 2018.
The fourth overall pick of the 2004 NFL draft has been calling the shots since 2006 after sitting behind ex-Bolt and current New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees for two years.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Rivers told Albert Breer of Sports Illustrated that he was looking to play a "handful of more years" in August:
"I'm super excited about a handful more years. I don't have a number in my head. I laugh when I hear Drew, Brady's already 41, when I hear them say mid-40s, I go, 'Y'all can have that.' I have no desire to get there. One thing I am thankful about is I know what I'm gonna be doing when I'm done. I'm gonna be coaching high school football somewhere, maybe the very next season."
Rivers turns 38 in December. If his "handful of years" remark comes to fruition, he'll in line for a big pay day if Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger's recent deal acts as a benchmark.
Per Over the Cap, Big Ben signed a two-year extension worth $68 million and $37.5 million guaranteed on Apr. 22.
Aside from the money and the desire to keep playing, Rivers has another incentive to press on: The Bolts' Super Bowl window is wide open.
Los Angeles went 12-4 last year even with star edge-rusher Joey Bosa missing nine games. The Chargers should return a healthy Bosa in addition to a host of talent, including No. 1 wideout Keenan Allen, cornerbacks Casey Hayward and Desmond King II and others.
Rivers has made the AFC Championship Game once but has never reached the Super Bowl. That's now a possibility in the twilight of his career, and he should be getting paid handsomely as he searches for that elusive milestone.
