Cancer and Sports Part 27: Phil's Expected Loss & Jeff's Last Chemo Day
Before the game starts here is my day... I UTerLee thrilled Jeff because I used my "great instincts" and purchased part of Cliff Lee's first signing of pics and balls! They arrived today when he arrived to pick me up at work! The balls are on display in golden gloves and the pics are waiting the custom framing and will go up tomorrow. I also purchased the Steve Carlton 7" baseball that hung in left field at Vet Stadium for my property (which arrives Saturday). Getting festive for the back to back WS Phils and I predict we will take it in 5 (or 6 or 7). Chemo ended today at 1:30 pm so we are holding our breath.
Jeff had a short cat nap and we are now prepared to watch Pedro put his money where his mouth is. So, PLAY BALL!

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Not a great start - so counting on Pedro to hold the Damn Yankees - Utley is boo'd - YAY - the Bronx Cheer! We are down for the count and it is Pedro's turn...this is where I leave you to watch the game. Jeff says we are going to lose so stop writing and watch Pedro! Had to run back - 3 up 3 down...WTG Pedro!! And now to run back and see if we can hit!
Whee Haa! Matt Stairs just hit Rauuuul in and we are the first on the board. Pedro Feliz is up and well...we are first to score! Rauuul is the fielder of the game - what a catch in the 2nd ♥ Gotta love it! And with an abdominal tear!
Ryan Howard...what happened? We stranded two and where is the Flyin' Hawaiian? Pedro - let's hold 'em! 3rd Inning and one out - fly ball to Victorino - okay, sorry I dissed him...but need those bats, guys! Now it is Pedro vs Jeter...struck him out! Three innings and it is still 1 - 0 Phillies. It feels like just a normal night here and then it dawns on me it is anything but.
Fourth and Werth is picked off at first, you need to prove your Werth, Jayson! Texiera gets a home run and Jeff's prediction of a Yankees win begins to look like a reality... to quote him "And so it begins!" A Rod hits a fly ball and I guess I need to really sit and watch the rest of the game with my honey. No matter what the outcome tonight, he is looking good, no external pumps with poison attacking his body and I am just glad to have him next to me. Unless there is something spectacular I will just watch the rest of Game 2 on TV~
It looks like it is over but not by the giant margin of runs Jeff expected! Yankees pitching was superb. Rauuuul in on 2nd and Matt Stairs is the question mark...can he make this a tie game? Nope! Am I the kiss of death watching the Phillies or was the die cast that the Yankees were destined to win a game at home? Who knows?
Series is now tied and we come to Philly on Saturday. Kudos to the Yankees pitchers, boo to the umpires who made bad calls for both teams but might have cost us a tie. Were the Yankees unbeatable tonight? Absolutely! But now we wait for game 3 in Philly and Cole Hamels who better supply Tricks not Treats to the Yankees on Halloween!
Footnote: Jeff is subdued and cancer comes back to bite us with every Phillies loss. Lights really out here, 5 minutes post game, TV off and Jeff asleep looking every bit a cancer patient.
