Every Saturday Is A Play-Off! Close Calls Abound During Week 8!
Close Calls Abound During Week 8!
With several teams just getting plain lucky!
The Crimson Tide may have been the luckiest with 2 blocked Field Goals The Vols almost smoked the tide if not for a junior called Mount. Tennessee’s 5th year Senior Qb Jonathan Crompton who for most of the season has been criticize, but has gotten much better as the season moves on; On the other side, Bama’s offense is not improving, which makes no sense cause the tide has 3 monster backs, but they spend way too much time trying to throw the ball, McElroy had decent numbers but the running numbers where equal to passing, and that almost threw them out of the race.
Florida also had a slight scare, and if not for another bad call by a SEC official, that game would have been closer, but close ain’t a lost. And it’s a fact- Florida, Alabama Texas, and Iowa have their fate in their jock straps.
Iowa another team that by the grace of god won Saturday, moved to # 4 in the BCS. The BCS computer systems seems to think that Iowa is the best in the land, which makes no damn sense, up to now Penn State is the only team they have played that is in the top 20. And by the end of the year the Hawkeyes may only have played 2 teams in the top 20! and it can be just as easy that at the end of the year none of Iowa’s opponents are in the final regular season poll.
Wow and the computers think the Hawkeyes, deserves the top spot?
Just as a example of how stupid this is, the 3rd place team(Alabama) by the BCS computer’s has played 3 teams in the top 20 already and by the end of the season they will have played 5 teams in the top 20, and maybe 6, if Kentucky continues to improve!
Abort! And reboot!
The Iowa “ I had to block 2 fgs to beat a 1AA team” Hawkeyes host Indiana, who is excited about the start of basketball season. Iowa really is the only Big10 that has a chance, and with only 1 game left against a decent team Ohio State, they have a good chance to finish undefeated.
Florida moves to Jacksonville for the world’s largest coattail party, this is one of the toughest rivalries in college football, as the Gators play the Dawgs of Athens.
Florida should be a solid favorite but you never know who meant crash his party.
Texas after that stampede over the tigers of Missouri, has a tough road game as the Cowboys of Oklahoma City host Texas. The Cowboys can put up some points, ranking 6th in the nation in scoring offense, a big part of that is their O line keeping Qb Zac Robinson off the turf, OKlahoma State is 2nd in the nation not allowing sacks Holycow! Unfortunately the Cowboys will be without pistoliers Dez Bryant & Kendall Hunter.
On the Left coast USC travels to Oregon for a huge play-off game between once beaten. The Trojans survived a late comeback by former Alabama player Mike Riley’s Oregon State Beavers. The Beavers threw for 327 yds and 3 tds, and returned a punt for a touchdown, this is the second week in a row that the USC defense has given up big yards and points. Oregon has scored a ton of points so this could be an late night shootout. One note to this game, if Oregon does win it not only helps the Ducks, but it gives the Broncos of Boise State a push in the BCS too.
Of the Non-Big Timers, I think Cincinnati may by the end, be the team to beat, cause they will have beaten a very good Pittsburgh team and a decent West Virginia team. Boise State had only one game all season versus a top 20 team, and the rest of their completion doesn’t even make the top 60!
TCU had a solid win over BYU on the road, and in a couple of weeks they play Utah.
But the road to the championship is southerner, so set your GPS for stops in Tuscallosa, Gainesville, and Austin with side trips to Atlanta and Arlington.
Undefeated: AP rankings- # 1 Florida, #2 Alabama, #3 Texas, # 5 Cincinnati,
# 6 Boise State & #7 TCU
Once beaten/loser’s bracket: # 4 USC, #9LSU, #10 Oregon
