Mets Walk-Off Yankees 🍎

Why Can't They Both Lose??

elon melesOct 26, 2009

My worst sports nightmare has come true. The New York Yankees and the Philadelphia Phillies are headed for a face off for the game's ultimate prize. Isn't it bad enough that my Mets have completely imploded 3 years years in a row? Now I have to watch one of my all time favorite pitchers go heads up for and against my two most hated squads. I would have said rivals, but who am I kidding? The Mets only rivals are themselves. And maybe the front office goons.

The Yanks handily dispatched the over matched Twins and are now on the verge of going 8-2 to start the postseason. The don't seem able to bounce back from all the late inning heriocs, turned in by the Evil Empire. In 27 post season at bats, Alex Rodriguez has finally become an October overachiever. He tied the Phils Ryan Howard and Yankee great Lou Gherig with RBIs in 8 consecutive games, bringing his postseason total to 11. He's banging out hits at a .407 clip, with 5 of them clearing the fence in clutch spot after clutch spot.

The Phillies worked over the Colorado and danced into the second round. Manny Ramirez hit the showers before the Phils walkoff victory and Philadelphia sent the rest of the team packing last night in Game 5. Now Pedro Martinez, Cole Hamels and last but certainly not least former Cy Young award winner Cliff Lee will try and tame the beast that is the Yankees lineup.

I'm going to cut this one short, as my day at the desk is coming to an unusually early end. I will be back with a full report when the Yanks make it official tonight in Anaheim. No matter who you are rooting for, this postseason has been exciting to say the very least. And as much as I hate to admit it, the World Series will provide plenty of bang for it's buck. The Phillies are looking to be the first repeat WS Champs since these very same Yanks did it in 1998-2000.
