Cancer and Sports Part 24: Phillies Vs Yankees & Jeff Vs Chemo
And so the world Series is set and it will be quite an East Coast show down. Cliff Lee and CC Sabathia (the 161 million dollar baby) on Wednesday night. Bring it on. The Angels proved that the Yankees are vulnerable and the rain delay and last night's game hopefully tuckered them out a bit. New York fans are brutal though and I am already being bashed by comparing the open purse strings of the Yankees to those of other teams. It is all about the dollars and the arrogance - they have both. Phillie needs to get some arrogance because they will never have the open pockets to work with. This does not translate into hating The Damn Yankees, just into loving my Phillies.
So as we meet the challenge as a ball team, Jeff is meeting his challenge as a cancer patient. Today begins round 2 of chemo and for 3 days he gets poison to beat the baseball in his chest. Now, one of the poisons is red so he will get to pee Phillies colors. Talk about living your team. I am counting on the Phillies bringing this home because the last treatment was so horrid. It was baseball (more than any sport) that helped him through the touch and go time. So I decided that the tumor must be blue since it is the red stuff that is going to kick its butt!

Yankees Call Up 6'7" Prospect 📈
Pitching is what is most different for the Phillies this WS. With Hamels at best inconsistent Cliff Lee and Pedro (does he need a last name any more?) take one and 2 with Hamels at the 3 spot and Blanton "Stay Puff Marshmallow Man" a consistent 4. Not sure who will get the 5 if we even need it - hopefully General Lee will be back in commission should we need a game 5 (hopeful, not delusional). Looks like we may get Brett Myers back in the bullpen and he does well vs the Yankees. Will Lidge be Lights Out? I would bet on it (just not a load of cash).
I am counting on Philadelphia to go back to back, keep Jeff's mind off the side effects of treatment and throw us fans some real bragging rights and a hell of a party for the city. Is that too much to ask? Probably, but we are bleeding Phillies red (we all actually do bleed red LOL, as do the Yankees fans hee hee). Our team always plays up to the good opponents and the Yanks are as good as it gets! Starting Wednesday even the cream cheese at JJ Elephant will be red...Phillies Phever is hittin' home. Just home this course of chemo it is the only fever Jeff gets!
I have to take a moment to mention my poor son in law, Dan, who is conflicted about which team to root for. He is a Mets fan and does not like the Yankees or the Phillies. His (very healthy) father is a die hard Yankees fan while his (poor, sick, frail - insert guilt here) father in law is a life long Phillies fan. Message to Dan...Do the right thing and root for the Phillies even if you do live in CT!!
Eagles tonight vs The Redskins (another Jeff distraction)...but they sure ain't the Fightin' Phils!
