Big Win in The Big House: Penn State Vs. Michigan

Allison BailOct 25, 2009

It has been 13 years—Penn State had not beaten Michigan in Ann Arbor since 1996. That changed after the Nittany Lions went into The Big House and beat Michigan in commanding fashion on Saturday, and some students are calling it the most dominating performance of the year.

“It was good to go out and make a statement like we did today. We needed to get a big win today on the road and we did it by dominating a conference rival of ours,” said sophomore Bryan C.

Penn State defeated Michigan Saturday by a score of 35-10. They were lead by a great performance by Quarterback Daryll Clark, who threw four touchdowns, three of them to wide receiver Graham Zug. The defense also had a solid performance.

I think this is a huge win for Penn State. Michigan is one of our bigger rivals in the Big Ten and is traditionally traditionally one of the best programs in the country. It was nice to watch our guys not roll over and die and come up with a big win. I think everyone was getting sick of losing to Michigan, which makes this one was just that much better.

PSU let Michigan score on their opening possession and then didn’t let them find the end zone the rest of the game.

“It was nice to go into the Big House and come out with a victory. We haven’t had much luck beating Michigan and it feels great to beat them for the second year in a row,” said Junior Greg P.

Fore those who aren't familiar with Michagan's home stadium,  it is called The Big House because it is the biggest stadium in college football. Penn State’s Beaver Stadium ranks second on this list.

Although the Iowa game didn't go how most Penn State fans would have liked, I'm optimistic that the Nittany Lions will continue to perform at a high level and impress their adoring fans.

I know many students here at PSU were anxiously watching the nail-biting Iowa game, hoping for a Hawkeye loss which would move Penn State up in the rankings. Iowa did not oblige, however, and came back miraculously to beat Michigan State in the final moments of the game. Penn State is now tied for second in the Big Ten along with Ohio State; both falling short of the first ranked Iowa team.

Next week Penn State has another big road game as the Lions travel to play Northwestern.

Every game is big here-on-out as we try to stay near the top of the Big Ten standings and potentially get to a big bowl game. Hopefully we can keep the momentum going and keeping getting the wins we need!
