Baylor Bears Drop Homecoming Match-Up To Oklahoma State, 34-7

Denton RamseyOct 25, 2009

With a highly-touted Oklahoma State football team invading their homecoming matchup on Saturday afternoon at Floyd Casey Stadium, Baylor Head Coach Art Briles knew his Bears were entering quite a test.

Despite a good performance by Freshman Nick Florence, who finished the game with 235 yards on 21-of-35 passing with one touchdown and one interception, the Baylor Bears (3-4, 0-3) came up short in a 34-7 loss to the No. 15 Oklahoma State Cowboys (6-1, 3-0).

“It was pretty frustrating but the main thing is that there is no panic,” Briles said. “I’m not panicking and our team isn’t panicking. We understand that we have another week to play, Lord willing. We’ll come out and we’ll fight again.”

Briles, who always seems to have the right words for the issue at hand, said his team still has time to turn things around.

“We know we have a long way to go and we have a lot of time to get better and we have to take advantage of it because we still have a lot of growing to do as a team,” Briles said.

Florence, who as mentioned had a good afternoon in terms of numbers, said the Bears remain set on their goals.

“We are not taking a step back, it was just one of those days,” Florence said. “That is the way it goes sometimes, just the way it happens sometimes. We are improving. We are going to get better this week and see how it goes next week.”

Nebraska is the next Big 12 opponent looming around the corner for Baylor.

The Bears will face the Huskers on Saturday, Oct. 31, in a Halloween afternoon match-up kicking off at 11:30 a.m. at Floyd Casey Stadium.

Saturday’s Baylor-Nebraska game will also be televised on VERSUS.

“We have games left and we are looking to win every single one of them,” Baylor senior wide receiver David Gettis said. “This team is not done. We know what we have to do. It really just comes down to us just getting it down in our heads that we need to produce and do it.”
