Report: Julio Jones, Aaron Donald Likely Won't Be at OTAs Amid Contract Disputes

Alec NathanMay 18, 2018

Atlanta Falcons wide receiver Julio Jones and Los Angeles Rams defensive tackle Aaron Donald are both reportedly planning to skip organized team activities as they continue to pursue new contracts.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, Jones wants an "update" to his contract that the team could be "amenable to." He's scheduled to earn a base salary of $10.5 million this season.

Donald, meanwhile, is in search of a new deal for the second straight offseason as he prepares to enter the final year of his rookie contract.

Donald, who's long been in the market for a revised deal, held out through the entire 2017 preseason and reported to the Rams shortly before the start of the regular season.

As things stand, he's scheduled to earn $6.9 million in 2018 and become an unrestricted free agent next spring.

However, the Rams aren't expected to let the NFL's reigning Defensive Player of the Year ever hit the open market.

"We came up with a nice timeline that we're going to work with, and we'll get to work and try to hammer this thing out," general manager Les Snead said in March, according to ESPN.com's Alden Gonzalez. "The theme will always be that we want Aaron to be a Ram a long time."

Snead later appeared on The MMQB Podcast with Peter King (h/t NFL.com's Chris Wesseling) and said Donald is "on the verge of being the highest-paid defensive player in football."

Donald, who turns 27 later this month, has racked up 39 sacks and nine forced fumbles over the past three seasons. He's also claimed three All-Pro nods and four Pro Bowl berths.

As for Jones, the Falcons wideout has topped 1,400 receiving yards four seasons running. He finished last year with 1,444 yards and three touchdowns.

According to Spotrac, Jones is on course to have the sixth-highest base salary among all wide receivers this season if his deal isn't adjusted.
