Dave Roberts' Job Safe Despite Dodgers' Early Struggles, GM Farhan Zaidi Says

Los Angeles Dodgers general manager Farhan Zaidi has given Dave Roberts a vote of confidence, despite the team's 16-26 start entering play on Thursday. 

"We, again, have all the confidence in him in the world," Zaidi said during an appearance on ESPN Los Angeles' Mornings With Keyshawn, Jorge and LZ. "We said that during spring training when people asked about it. [We] haven't seen anything in this first quarter of the season that has done anything to our confidence level with him."

The Dodgers started this season with sky-high expectations after winning 104 games and reaching the World Series in 2017. 

Per ESPN Stats & Info, the Dodgers tied an MLB record for the fewest games played (42) to be at least 10 games under .500 the season after winning at least 100 games. 

Injuries have played a significant role in Los Angeles' poor start in 2018. Justin Turner missed 40 games after his left wrist was broken when he was hit by a pitch in spring training. Corey Seager is out for the season to undergo Tommy John surgery. 

Clayton Kershaw, Hyun-Jin Ryu and Tony Cingrani are currently on the 10-day disabled list. Yasiel Puig and Rich Hill have spent time on the disabled list, too. 

Roberts is in his third season managing the Dodgers. He was named National League Manager of the Year in 2016, and his .577 winning percentage ranks fourth in franchise history with at least 300 games managed.
