Adrian Beltre Placed on 10-Day DL with Hamstring Injury

Mike ChiariMay 15, 2018

Texas Rangers third baseman Adrian Beltre's injury-plagued 2018 season took another hit Tuesday, as the veteran was placed on the 10-day disabled list, according to Jeff Wilson of Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

A strained left hamstring is again hampering the Rangers slugger, who has played in just 29 games this season, hitting .314 with a homer and 12 RBI.

Beltre has already suffered a pair of hamstring injuries this year, and he is coming off a 2017 campaign in which he played just 94 games.

Although Beltre was limited by injuries last season, he showed that he had plenty left in the tank by hitting .312 with 17 home runs and 71 RBI. He also registered his 3,000th career hit during the 2017 campaign.

That gave the Rangers enough confidence in their third base situation to enter 2018 with Beltre as the clear, go-to option.

It was difficult to argue with their decision given Beltre's Hall of Fame-caliber resume.

In 21 MLB seasons with the Rangers, Los Angeles Dodgers, Seattle Mariners and Boston Red Sox, Beltre has been named an All-Star four times, and he won five Gold Gloves, two Platinum Gloves and four Silver Slugger awards.

Perhaps the best stretch of his career has come during an eight-year stint with the Rangers, but age may finally be catching up with him in terms of his durability.

During Beltre's previous absences this season, Texas utilized several different lineups in order to fill in for him.

That included using both Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Jurickson Profar at the hot corner. They remain options, as is the possibility of moving Joey Gallo from the outfield to third base, if needed.

Regardless of what the Rangers do if Beltre misses time, their lineup will take a significant hit in terms of depth and potency without him.

Texas is suffering through a difficult season, and another potential stint without arguably its best all-around hitter won't make things any easier.
