Mike ChiariMay 8, 2018

Plans are in place for Major League Baseball to stage more games in London in 2020 after the New York Yankees and Boston Red Sox play a two-game set there in 2019.

According to the BBC, the Yanks and Red Sox will clash at London Stadium on June 29 and 30 next year.

The league then wants to return in 2020 and establish "a long-term footprint in the city."

The games between the Yankees and Red Sox in London next season will mark the first MLB regular-season contests to ever be played in Europe.

Outside the continental United States and Canada, Major League Baseball has also staged regular-season games in Mexico, Japan, Australia and Puerto Rico.

London already has a strong presence in both the NFL and NBA.

The NFL has played games in London every year since 2007, while the NBA has held eight regular-season games there since 2011.

London has oftentimes played host to middling or low-level teams for its NFL and NBA games, but MLB appears to be going all in by showcasing its premier rivalry in the form of the Yankees against the Red Sox.
