
Jacob deGrom Placed on DL for Elbow Injury, Expected to Start Next Week
New York Mets manager Mickey Callaway told reporters Jacob deGrom will shortly go on the 10-day disabled list with a right elbow injury.
Callaway said the team is not concerned and are simply being "overly cautious" with deGrom, who injured his pitching elbow during an at-bat in Wednesday's loss to the Atlanta Braves. The Mets originally said deGrom would make his scheduled start Monday as expe
"[Monday] Jacob deGrom is not going to start. We thought long and hard about this. Jacob deGrom is in a great spot with his throwing. He threw a bullpen [Saturday] totally pain free, but the more and more we talked about this, we need to take care of the season and Jacob deGrom and the New York Mets," Callaway said, per the New York Post's Fred Kerber. "So we made the decision we’re going to DL Jacob deGrom."

DeGrom, 29, is 3-0 with a 1.87 ERA and 0.99 WHIP this season. He's allowed zero or one runs in five of his seven starts, clearly establishing himself as the ace of the staff.
The Mets have lost five straight games to drop to 17-14 and sit in third place in the NL East. They expect deGrom to make his next scheduled start next Sunday.
An MRI revealed he has no structural damage, so this is fully a move designed to keep deGrom healthy over the long term.
