Quenton Nelson, Colts Agree to 4-Year Rookie Contract

The Indianapolis Colts announced Friday they agreed to terms on a rookie contract with first-round pick Quenton Nelson.

The Colts selected Nelson (6'5", 325 lbs), the consensus top offensive lineman in this year's class, with the sixth overall pick in last month's draft.

Based on the way the Colts performed in 2017, it should have come as no surprise that general manager Chris Ballard sought to upgrade the interior of the team's offensive line.

Specifically, the Colts allowed a league-high 56 sacks a season ago and mustered 3.7 yards per carry as opposing front sevens feasted on one of the NFL's most beleaguered units.

It's no wonder, then, why Ballard called selecting Nelson "the easiest pick I've ever been a part of," according to the Indianapolis Star's Stephen Holder.

"God made him a little bit different than He made everybody else," Ballard added.

Given the praise that Nelson has generated, it feels safe to project him as a starting piece of the Colts' new protection package.

The Notre Dame product looks like a lock to start at left guard as he attempts to fortify that side of the offensive line alongside blindside patrolman Anthony Castonzo.
