Mets GM Talks Report Matt Harvey Was Partying in LA Night Before San Diego Game

Tim DanielsMay 1, 2018

New York Mets general manager Sandy Alderson said Tuesday he wasn't surprised by a Page Six report alleging pitcher Matt Harvey partied in Los Angeles last week during a series against the San Diego Padres.

Anthony DiComo of MLB.com provided Alderson's response when asked whether he was upset about Harvey potentially traveling to L.A. on Thursday night.

"Usually I get upset if a report is unexpected," he said. "So I guess the short answer is no."

Harvey was demoted to the bullpen last month after three straight poor starts. He made a relief appearance one night after the alleged trip to Los Angeles, allowing a home run to Padres outfielder Franchy Cordero in the Mets' 5-1 victory.

After that outing, the 29-year-old Connecticut native said he was still adjusting to the different prep work necessary when coming out of the bullpen.

"Just getting used to the preparation. Going down there and being able to see how guys get ready," he told reporters. "Trying to learn from them and pick little things that may help get loose. You're not doing a 30-minute prep and stretch that goes into starting. Finding a way to make sure that I'm more ready."

Harvey pitched a scoreless frame of relief Sunday against San Diego. His ERA still stands at an unsightly 5.76 through seven games, including four starts, this season.

Last May, he received a three-day suspension from the Mets for failing to show up for a game.

Harvey, who was one of the National League's best pitchers through three seasons, has suffered a major drop-off over the last three years while dealing with various injuries.
