Art Briles' Baylor Bears Will Continue To Claw, Fight Til Bitter End…

Denton RamseyOct 23, 2009

Sometimes I wonder if the Baylor Bears football team is just cursed.

After dropping a 24-10 loss to Iowa State last Saturday, the Bears are now 0-2 in Big 12 play.

And the road ahead doesn’t get any easier.

However, I do know one thing as a fact: as long as Art Briles is coaching the Bears, those guys are never going to give up in any game and they will claw and fight until the bitter end.

The latest Bears loss hurts, but the season isn’t over yet.

As Briles has said before, there are still six games remaining in the season and he and the team believe they can win three of those.

We get a tough test immediately, with Oklahoma State invading Floyd Casey Stadium this weekend for Baylor’s Homecoming.

Do we have a chance to win? Sure, there’s always a chance for the underdog to win in college football.

That’s the beauty of college sports.

I’m not Briles, nor am I part of the coaching staff, but I really hope he decides to start freshman Nick Florence this weekend against the Cowboys.

Not to bash Blake Szymanski or anything, but our senior QB throws more INT’s than TD’s and it’s time for Florence to show what he can do in the spotlight.

Florence has really already proven himself in my opinion, and he looked awesome in the first half against the Oklahoma Sooners a couple weeks ago.

We also have another freshman play-caller waiting in the wings here at BU: Jared Monk, a high school quarterback recruited by the Bears to play tight end.

Last week, both Monk (1-of-1, 3 yards) and Florence (2-of-6, 49 yards) got some playing time in the second half of action after Szymanski tossed his third interception of the game.

We’ll see what Briles decides to do in terms of our starting quarterback come Saturday afternoon, but until then we just have to hope and pray our Bears can play some superb football this weekend and make a game of it against Oklahoma State.

We’ve still got a chance to reach that bowl goal.

We just need to start picking up W’s immediately.

And getting one this weekend for Homecoming would be a great start…
