NFL Draft Order 2018: Full Selection List for Rounds 2-7 and Round 1 Results

Joe TanseyApr 27, 2018

If you thought the first round of the 2018 NFL draft provided enough twists and turns, just wait until the start of Friday's selections.

With a handful of players who were first-round talents in the eyes of some evaluators still available, we could experience a frenzy at the start of the second round to secure the best possible talent.

Trades could dictate the pace of the second round Friday, as franchises try to trade up for players such as LSU running back Derrius Guice, UTEP guard Will Hernandez and Boston College defensive end Harold Landry.

In total, 68 selections will be made Friday in the second and third rounds, with the Indianapolis Colts holding the most picks (four), while 11 teams are in possession of three picks.

Guice, Chubb Intriguing Options at Running Back

One of the surprises at the back end of the first round was the order in which the running backs came off the draft board.

Everyone expected Penn State's Saquon Barkley to be selected in the top five, as he went to the New York Giants at No. 2, but few thought San Diego State's Rashaan Penny would be a first-round selection.

Penny went 27th to the Seattle Seahawks as the second running back off the board, and he was followed four picks later by Georgia's Sony Michel, who landed with the New England Patriots.

Michel's college teammate, Nick Chubb, and Guice are still waiting for a call after Thursday, and there's a good chance both won't have to wait too long Friday to learn their first NFL employer.

Cleveland and Indianapolis seem like the best candidates to select a running back at the beginning of the second round because they both have multiple picks and could upgrade at the position if they want.

Tampa Bay is an intriguing team at No. 38, as it looks to add to a dynamic offense led by quarterback Jameis Winston and wide receiver Mike Evans.

However, there is a possibility with the defensive talent and wide receivers remaining that one or both of Guice and Chubb tumble a bit in the second round.

If that is the case, teams such as the Browns or Colts could trade back up in the second round to take them, or a contender from a year ago like Pittsburgh could trade into a position to fill a need with the most talented player left on its draft board.

When Does the Next Quarterback Get Chosen?

The quarterbacks were the story of the first round, with Heisman Trophy winners Baker Mayfield and Lamar Jackson bookending the opening 32 picks.

As the draft pushes on to Friday, Oklahoma State's Mason Rudolph is the best signal-caller on the board, and there are some teams worth keeping an eye on in pursuit of him.

CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora noted after the first round Rudolph could be a trade target Friday, with the Los Angeles Chargers potentially interested:

The Chargers sit at No. 48, which is the 16th selection in the second round, and they don't necessarily have an arsenal of draft picks to trade up compared to a team such as the New England Patriots carrying a pair of second-rounders and a third-round pick.

But the Patriots might not even have to trade to get in line for Rudolph, as they sit pretty at No. 41 after adding two offensive players in the first round.

If the Patriots and Chargers bypass Rudolph, look for Pittsburgh at No. 60, or even Jacksonville at No. 61 to take a long look at the Oklahoma State product.

Outside of Rudolph, there aren't many high-profile names left in the talent pool, which could be one of the factors driving the Day 2 interest in him.

Richmond's Kyle Lauletta, Washington State's Luke Falk and Western Kentucky's Mike White are some of the best available products behind Rudolph, but there's no guarantee they'll be selected on Day 2.
