Teams That May Trade Up for QB

As we head into the draft, there are a number of teams in need of a quarterback. However, some of those teams may be too far down the draft order to get one they want.

Right now, teams like the Cleveland Browns, New York Giants, New York Jets and Denver Broncos are all in position to get a top quarterback prospect if they go that route.

But teams like the Arizona Cardinals (No. 15 overall), New England Patriots (No. 23 and 31 overall) and the Buffalo Bills (No. 12 and 21 overall) are all potential landing spots for quarterbacks, but they're a bit too far down the board.

Well, all of these teams could trade up.

At first glance, the Bills and Patriots have the ammunition in this first round alone to move up if they want.

The Bills and Browns make sense to do a trade based around the No. 4 pick.

The 49ers or the Raiders make sense to do a trade based around the No. 9 or No. 10 picks.

The Cardinals do have their first round pick they can leverage as well as a second-round pick and two third-round picks, but they may need to throw in next year's first-round pick to move up.

Expect there to be a flurry of transactions come draft night.

Teams need quarterbacks, and teams have the firepower to move up if they need to.

Who Will Be the No. 1 Overall Pick?

Every draft, we ponder this question: Who will be the No. 1 overall pick?

Right now, the odds-on favorite is Sam Darnold out of USC to go to the Browns as the first selection, according to OddsShark.

Remember, though—Josh Allen is still in the running, too. And now, it seems Baker Mayfield may have a realistic shot.

According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, Mayfield is "definitely" in play to be Cleveland's guy to lead their team into the next decade:

Mary Kay Cabot of the Cleveland Plain Dealer also reported that the Browns have since "cooled" on Darnold and it's down to Mayfield and Allen.

For me, the choice would be Rosen, but Mayfield, Allen and Darnold all present their own pros and cons.

Darnold is NFL ready, though he tends to turn the ball over more than you'd like out of a franchise quarterback.

Allen has all the tools, but coming out of Wyoming, he played against less than stellar competition and struggled against blitzes and had a low completion percentage.

Mayfield is a bit undersized for some people's liking and has some minor issues, such as footwork and scanning the field completely.

At the end of the day, all of these guys could be the guy, but Rosen is the safest option.

But, based on the information we know, Darnold seems likely to be the Browns' top pick.

What Will the Packers Do?

With the No. 14 overall selection, the Green Bay Packers are in a precarious position. There's a clear need for a defensive back and a pass rusher.

However, it appears they could value the need for a defensive back more so. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the Packers could trade up for one.

Demovsky lists Denzel Ward, Derwin James and Minkah Fitzpatrick as the guys he'd expect them to target. However, the Packers would likely need to move up from No. 14 to do so.

Perhaps they could package their second-round pick (No. 45 overall) in a trade to move up. According to DraftTek's trade value chart, if they offered their first- and second-round picks, they'd have the assets to move up to No. 8 or No. 9 overall.

Those picks belong to the Chicago Bears and San Francisco 49ers, respectively. The Bears really need a top player to add to their team, but the 49ers could potentially move down.

They're also an option for a trade with the Patriots, too, but maybe the 49ers could take that deal as a fallback option should something happen.

Staying at 14, the Packers have a chance at one of those three, but they're definitely better off trading up.

The Bears and Buccaneers are candidates to draft defensive backs, so at No. 9 overall, they'd be in a position to take whoever is left should the Bears and Bucs go that route.

If one of the three defensive backs falls, expect a Packers trade up.
