Why the Twins can pay on the MLB lines

The Twins have dropped four of the first five games on their road trip, which started with a split of two against the Cleveland Indians in Puerto Rico.

They were just swept in three games by the Tampa Bay Rays, with two of them decided by a combined three runs and the other a 10-1 rout by the home team.

However, they will be sending one of their better pitchers to the mound in Jake Odorizzi (1-1, 3.38 ERA), who has made two of his first three starts away from home.

Odorizzi surrendered four runs to the Indians in five innings last time out, but he had allowed three total in his first two road starts.

Why the Yankees can pay on the MLB lines

The Yankees are hoping pitcher Masahiro Tanaka (2-2, 6.45 ERA) can rebound from a rough start to the season, especially at home.

Tanaka's first two starts were pretty good, but he has given up 12 earned runs and 15 hits in 10 innings over his last two to see his ERA more than double from 2.92.

The good news is the Japanese has still found a way to pick up two wins, with New York averaging seven runs in those games compared to only 1.5 in the two losses.

The Yankees outscored the Toronto Blue Jays 23-13 in taking three of four from them over the weekend, so their offense is clicking.

Smart betting pick

Considering how inconsistent Tanaka has been in his four starts and the high price on New York in this spot, it is hard to recommend a play on the heavy favorite.

Instead, Minnesota is worth a look as a big underdog despite losing the past four meetings, according to the OddsShark MLB Database. Before that, the Twins had won three of the previous four games between the teams, so give them a shot here.

MLB betting trends

Minnesota is 11-5 ATS in its last 16 games.

Minnesota is 6-2 ATS in its last eight games on the road.

The total has gone over in 10 of New York's last 13 games.
