Dez Bryant Odds: Texans, Packers Listed as Favorites to Land Ex-Cowboys WR

Scott PolacekApr 17, 2018

If the early betting odds are correct, the Houston Texans or Green Bay Packers may add a three-time Pro Bowler to their wide receivers group before the end of the offseason.

On Monday, Stephen Campbell of OddsShark noted the Texans (+300, or bet $100 to win $300) are the favorites to sign Dez Bryant after the Dallas Cowboys released him Friday. The Packers (+400) aren't far behind, while the Baltimore Ravens (+600), Washington (+600), San Francisco 49ers (+700), Buffalo Bills (+700) and New England Patriots (+700) were also listed.

That Washington was the only NFC East team with more favorable odds than +2,000 is notable since Bryant told NFL Network's Jane Slater, via Austin Knoblauch of NFL.com, "I won't say any teams, but being in the division, that's a huge possibility. That's a huge possibility. That's something that I want."

Houston has the best odds after Bobby Belt of SBNation pointed out the receiver followed a number of Texans players on Instagram, including Deshaun Watson, J.J. Watt and DeAndre Hopkins.

If he signed in Houston, he likely wouldn't face many double teams playing alongside Hopkins and Will Fuller and could use his 6'2" frame as a dangerous red-zone threat. It would also provide him the opportunity to play with a blossoming quarterback talent in Watson, although Green Bay counters with one of the best signal-callers in generations in Aaron Rodgers.

Bryant is a three-time Pro Bowler who tallied 41 touchdowns from 2012 through 2014 and more than 1,200 receiving yards in each of those three years. However, he hasn't topped 838 receiving yards in a season since and appeared to lose a step from his prime.

Campbell noted releasing Bryant saved the Cowboys $8.5 million against the cap, and Kate Hairopoulos of the Dallas Morning News said there was "a spiraling relationship with the front office and some members of head coach Jason Garrett's staff."
