Aldon Smith Transferred from Jail to Substance Abuse Facility After 0.40 BAC

Adam WellsApr 13, 2018

Linebacker Aldon Smith has been transferred from a San Francisco county jail to an inpatient substance abuse facility.

Per TMZ Sports, Smith was transferred because officials believe he suffers from alcoholism when his alcohol monitoring device registered a 0.40 blood alcohol content on April 6.

TMZ previously reported Smith was arrested last week for violating a condition of his electronic monitoring.

The former San Francisco 49ers and Oakland Raiders star was arrested last month for domestic violence, with the judge ordering him to wear a SCRAM device that measures the amount of alcohol in a person's sweat.

Smith's ex-fiancee told TMZ after his March arrest that he was checking into rehab.

The NFL suspended Smith for one year in November 2015 for violating the league's substance abuse policy. He also had to apply for reinstatement when his suspension ended, but his request in December 2016 was denied.

Smith hasn't appeared in an NFL game since November 15, 2015, with the Raiders when he recorded one sack against the Minnesota Vikings.
