WrestleMania is in the rearview mirror, The Greatest Royal Rumble is on the horizon and one of the most decorated Superstars in WWE history is on his way back for the monumental event.
And that is not even the most intriguing chatter emanating from the WWE rumor mill following the Showcase of the Immortals.
An upcoming DVD release could well be proof positive of softening tensions between two of the most recognizable promotions in the industry.
Then there is a backstage altercation between WWE Universal Champion Brock Lesnar and company owner Vince McMahon that occurred just after WrestleMania and involved one other interesting party who was not at all afraid to step up in defense of the chairman.
How Long Is Chris Jericho Returning For?
According to Randall Ortman of Cageside Seats, Chris Jericho's return for The Greatest Royal Rumble will be a brief one: "Chris Jericho’s appearance at Greatest Royal Rumble is expected to be a one-off."
Jericho was announced for the epic 50-man match Wednesday afternoon on WWE.com.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. Jericho returning to participate in the Greatest Royal Rumble adds a sense of credibility to the match and makes it a bigger, must-see extravaganza.
He carries that sort of star power with him. One appearance can elevate the significance of a show, even if there are zero plans to use him afterward.
Some may complain that Jericho is leaving, that they would rather have him on their televisions every week, but if that was the case, a return such as this one would lose its impact.
A WWE-TNA Working Relationship?
According to FME (h/t Cageside Seats' Randall Ortman), an upcoming Hardy Boyz DVD release could be the first to feature TNA footage.
"FME, the company which licenses WWE Video for distribution in the UK, says WWE is working with Impact to include 'Broken Universe' material on an upcoming Hardys DVD, the first time TNA footage would be featured on a WWE broadcast or release."
Matt and Jeff Hardy created the Broken Hardys gimmick during their time in TNA/Impact Wrestling and were key figures in that promotion's television.
Buy or Sell?
Buy. The WWE roster is made up of several Superstars whose careers in TNA are essential to their stories. AJ Styles, Bobby Roode and Samoa Joe are just a few, not to mention those in NXT.
A working relationship between the two companies in which WWE has access to the TNA video library for a fee would benefit both the company's home video productions as well as fans who want to see that footage in collections featuring those stars.
If it comes to fruition, this is a potentially revolutionary relationship that provides benefits to both sides and bridges a gap between two promotions once considered incompatible.
Shane McMahon Involved in Confrontation Between Brock Lesnar and Vince McMahon
On his Wrestling Observer Radio program, Dave Meltzer revealed that not only was Brock Lesnar involved in a backstage confrontation with Vince McMahon at WrestleMania, but Shane McMahon also interjected himself and was prepared to fight Lesnar.
The confrontation took place after Lesnar returned to the backstage area following his victory over Roman Reigns in the main event of The Showcase of the Immortals.
Buy or Sell?
Sell. It is admirable that Shane McMahon would defend his father.
It is also stupid.
He is Shane McMahon. That is Brock Lesnar. Exhausted from a main event match or not, that is not a fight that is ever in McMahon's favor.
Also, angering your company's champion and biggest attraction is also ill-advised, especially with the potential for a return to UFC hanging overhead.
