Paige Announces In-Ring Retirement on Raw After WrestleMania Due to Neck Injury
Paige hasn't wrestled since December, and she announced Monday night on Raw that she has to retire from in-ring competition because of her history of neck injuries.
WWE shared Paige's speech to the WWE Universe:
PWInsider.com's Mike Johnson reported in January that doctors weren't prepared to clear Paige for her return to wrestling, but she remained the on-screen leader of Absolution.
She had returned briefly in December but was injured during a house show Dec. 28 in Uniondale, New York, according to Johnson.
Her announcement Monday night elicited plenty of reactions on social media:
Despite only being 25 and having already missed more than a year of her career, Paige achieved a lot during her time in NXT and WWE. She was the first-ever NXT women's champion and won the Divas Championship in her opening night on the main roster.
Especially with her work in NXT, Paige deserves credit for the Women's Revolution in WWE.
Daniel Bryan's WWE comeback at least gives Paige some hope her retirement won't be permanent.
Bryan bid the WWE Universe farewell in February 2016 but returned at WrestleMania 34 on Sunday to team with Shane McMahon in a win over Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.
