Anthony Rendon Ejected for Flipping Bat After Strikeout vs. Mets

Joseph ZuckerApr 7, 2018

Washington Nationals third baseman Anthony Rendon was ejected after the bottom of the third inning of Saturday's game against the New York Mets.

Rendon struck out looking to end the frame, flipped his bat and started removing his batting gloves. Home plate umpire Marty Foster then ejected him from the game. Nationals on MASN shared a GIF of the sequence:

It was the second time in as many at-bats Rendon went down on strikes. Steven Matz had retired him with a fastball with one on and nobody out in the first inning.

MLB.com's Anthony DiComo showed both of the called third strikes were borderline:

Nationals manager Dave Martinez came out of the dugout to argue Foster's decision and received his first ejection eight games into his MLB managerial career.

Matt Reynolds replaced Rendon as the No. 2 hitter in the Washington lineup, while bench coach Chip Hale assumed Martinez's duties.
