How Undertaker Can Save Bizarre Feud with John Cena at WWE WrestleMania 34

Donald WoodApr 2, 2018

After yet another night of trying to goad The Undertaker into a match at WWE WrestleMania 34, John Cena says he will walk into Sunday's pay-per-view as a fan.

When Cena finally takes his seat at ringside halfway through WrestleMania, Undertaker must make his entrance and brutally attack him, creating an impromptu unsanctioned-style matchup.

It's blatantly obvious Cena and Undertaker will square off in some form or fashion in New Orleans. WWE Creative would not have invested this much time and effort into building the bout on Raw and SmackDown if there wasn't a payoff.

According to Dave Meltzer of the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Forbes), there were only 700 tickets remaining for WrestleMania as of Monday, so Undertaker not being announced for the event didn't hurt sales. That comfort zone created by Daniel Bryan's in-ring return gave the company the chance to have The Deadman arrive as a surprise.

Out of all the characters WWE has created over the years, who better to return to the WrestleMania stage under a cloud of mystery than the man who used his supernatural aura to captivate fans for nearly 30 years?

Right now, a vocal portion of the WWE Universe doesn't want to see Undertaker vs. Cena in 2018.

With The Deadman's best matches behind him and Cena putting on his best performances against elite workers, there is a legitimate concern that a traditional wrestling match between the Superstars wouldn't live up to the hype.

Instead, Undertaker attacking Cena at Sunday's PPV would create a bout that had no rules or stipulations. A hardcore-style fight would be the perfect setting to protect each man's technical faults and would add instant drama to the battle.

The Deadman finally answering Cena for all his verbal attacks would give the fans in attendance and at home something to latch on to with this storyline.

The impromptu appearance from Undertaker would create an unforgettable moment worthy of the WrestleMania stage and would alleviate all expectations of it having to be a passable technical match. The WWE Universe would just be happy watching the drama and violence unfold naturally.

While the WrestleMania card is already stacked, both with talent and in terms of depth, adding Undertaker vs. Cena is a no-brainer. WWE is all about creating moments, and the two legends standing toe-to-toe will be unforgettable.
