Jim Mora Says 'Millennial' Josh Rosen 'Needs to Be Challenged Intellectually'

Tyler ConwayApr 2, 2018

Former UCLA coach Jim Mora, who mentored Josh Rosen for each of his three seasons as a Bruin, told Peter King of The MMQB he believes the star quarterback "needs to be challenged intellectually."

"He needs to be challenged intellectually so he doesn't get bored," Mora told King. "He's a millennial. He wants to know why. Millennials, once they know why, they're good. Josh has a lot of interests in life. If you can hold his concentration level and focus only on football for a few years, he will set the world on fire. He has so much ability, and he's a really good kid."

Rosen is a first-round lock and is widely expected to be drafted in the top 10 later this month. He threw for 9,340 yards and 59 touchdowns against 26 interceptions in three years as a starter for Mora, and he is arguably the most talented passer in this class.

However, some NFL evaluators have questioned Rosen's passion for football and his ability to fit in a pro locker room due to his outspoken nature. Rosen has been open about his disdain for the NCAA, discussed societal topics and clearly has interests outside the game of football.

When players do not necessarily display a borderline-sociopathic devotion to football, sometimes it leads to questions about their "passion" in the predraft process—especially at quarterback, a position designed to lead a team.
