WWE WrestleMania 34: Early Predictions for Announced Matches on the Card

Chris MuellerApr 2, 2018

WrestleMania 34 takes place Sunday, which means the biggest pro wrestling pay-per-view of the year is almost upon us.

WWE has stacked the card with dream matches, specialty bouts and the debut of one of the biggest signings in WWE history, Ronda Rousey.

As with any PPV, management has the opportunity to make some unexpected decisions to surprise the crowd, just like it did when The Undertaker lost to Brock Lesnar at WrestleMania XXX.

Let's go through the announced card, according to WWE.com, and make some educated predictions.

The Cruiserweight Championship

Since Enzo Amore was released in January and the Cruiserweight Championship was vacated, WWE has been holding a tournament to find a new champion.

After an exciting series of matches that saw an increase in the quality of 205 Live, Cedric Alexander and Mustafa Ali made it to the finals.

These are two of the best high-flyers in pro wrestling. They can do things most Superstars wouldn't even attempt in their prime.

Ali is a future champion for sure, but this is Alexander's success story. He was well on his way to winning the title when Amore was champion, so it stands to reason he is still WWE's choice to lead the division.

The Battle Royals

WWE has added a special Battle Royal for the women's division to the WrestleMania card to complement the men's Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal.

While this will be a first for the women's division, it will be the fifth for the men. Previous winners Baron Corbin, Mojo Rawley and Big Show will likely find themselves in the match again, but Cesaro is booked elsewhere on the card.

Both of these contests can help give a deserving Superstar a much-needed push, but as we saw with Rawley, it doesn't always lead to greater success.

When it comes to the Andre Battle Royal, one man stands out as needing a big win at WrestleMania more than anyone: Dolph Ziggler.

As for the women's Battle Royal, it feels like Becky Lynch's match to lose. She has been on a roll lately, and winning this bout would be a good substitute for not being in one of the title matches.

The Midcard Titles

The Intercontinental and United States Championships were originally set to be defended in Triple Threat matches, but Rusev's recent success earned him a title shot to make the battle for the latter a Fatal 4-Way.

The Miz will put the IC title up against Finn Balor and Seth Rollins, while Randy Orton will defend the U.S. title against Rusev, Jinder Mahal and Bobby Roode.

Rusev's last-minute addition to the match doesn't mean he is going to win. In fact, it's more of a sign of WWE throwing him a bone because of the recent success of Rusev Day.

Having Roode regain the belt would make for a fun moment, but Orton just won it at Fastlane. It's too early for WWE to take it off of him. The Viper will emerge victorious after hitting several RKOs.

The IC title match is a little more complicated. Rollins and Balor would both benefit from a run with a midcard title, but WWE has been making a big deal out of the fact The Miz is closing in on the record for the longest time spent with the Intercontinental Championship across his reigns with the strap in WWE history.

The A-Lister hasn't had many WrestleMania moments, and that is why it makes the most sense for him to establish himself as the greatest IC champ of all time and defend his belt successfully.

The Tag Team Titles

Both sets of tag team champions have their work cut out at WrestleMania. The Usos will defend the SmackDown tag titles against The New Day and The Bludgeon Brothers in what is sure to be an exciting contest.

All three of these teams have stolen the show multiple times, so it wouldn't be surprising to see them do it again Sunday.

The Usos and The New Day have been playing hot potato with the belts for a long time. It's time for Harper and Rowan to have their first reign as champions.

The Bar doesn't have things much easier, facing Braun Strowman and a partner of his choosing for the Raw Tag Team Championships.

It almost seems too obvious The Monster Among Men is going to win with whomever he teams up with, but it's still going to be fun watching him win his first gold in WWE.

The Women's Titles

Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair will each have a challenge to overcome at WrestleMania when she defends her title against an opponent looking to win her first gold on the main roster.

Bliss will face Nia Jax in a long overdue showdown. WWE has been building toward this since last year and seemed to change its mind about when to pull the trigger on their rivalry multiple times.

The Goddess is doing a fantastic job playing a vicious mean girl in this feud, but it's Jax's time to dethrone her.

Over on SmackDown Live, Charlotte will battle the undefeated Asuka in one of the dream matches on Sunday's card.

While The Queen has established her dominance on both brands, it's clear this is The Empress of Tomorrow's time to shine. When WrestleMania is over, we will have two new women's champions in WWE.

The Authority Figure Matches

Not only does WWE have multiple authority figures on each brand, but they are all involved in tag team matches at WrestleMania.

Raw's is much easier to predict. Stephanie McMahon and Triple H will take on Rousey and Kurt Angle, and the WWE power couple is going to lose.

This is Rousey's first match in a WWE ring. Management isn't going to allow her to look weak this soon after signing with the company by having her lose. Not only will Rousey win, but she may just do it by making Triple H tap out.

SmackDown Live has Daniel Bryan's return to the ring for the first time in three years to team up with Shane McMahon against Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn.

Even though this is Bryan's triumphant return, the stipulation he set for the match indicates Zayn and Owens will be winning so they can get their jobs back after being fired two weeks ago.

The Main Events

The WWE and Universal Championship matches are two of the most important contests on the card, and WWE will make sure both bouts live up to the hype.

The build for Brock Lesnar vs. Roman Reigns has been outstanding. While it might not get the crowd completely behind Reigns, it has done a lot to make him look like someone who will stop at nothing to defeat The Beast.

Shinsuke Nakamura and AJ Styles, on the other hand, have kept their rivalry friendly for the most part. They are even watching out for each other so they have no excuses when someone loses.

The Universal Championship match is easy to predict. Reigns is going to defeat Lesnar to end his yearlong title reign and bring the belt back to Raw on a regular basis.

Nakamura vs. Styles, on the other hand, is not so cut and dried. The Phenomenal One is the perfect person to put over Nakamura, but WWE may not want to have so many titles change hands at 'Mania.

The King of Strong Style is the safer bet, but only by a small margin.
