Aaron Hicks Placed on 10-Day DL with Intercostal Muscle Injury

New York Yankees outfielder Aaron Hicks will miss at least the next 10 days due to a right intercostal muscle strain.

Per the Yankees' public relations department, Hicks has been placed on the 10-day disabled list, and outfielder Billy McKinney was called up from Triple-A to take his spot on the 25-man roster. 

It's unclear when Hicks suffered the injury. He played in New York's season opener against the Toronto Blue Jays on Thursday, going 2-for-4 in the 6-1 win. 

The Yankees have been hit hard by injuries in their outfield to start the season. Hicks joins Clint Frazier and Jacoby Ellsbury on the disabled list. 

Hicks battled oblique injuries last season that landed him on the disabled list twice and limited him to 88 games. 

New York manager Aaron Boone still has a host of outfield options to use without Hicks, though. One potential solution will be to move Brett Gardner into center field with Giancarlo Stanton and Aaron Judge in the corner spots. 

McKinney was acquired by the Yankees in the 2016 trade with the Chicago Cubs for Aroldis Chapman. The 23-year-old hit .277/.338/.483 with 16 homers in 124 minor-league games last season.
