Andy Murray to Return to Action Before Wimbledon at the Libema Open in June
Former world tennis No. 1 Andy Murray will return to action for the first time since Wimbledon 2017 at the Libema Open in the Netherlands in June.
The Scot had hip surgery in January and has been recovering ever since, but he has now confirmed the tournament in Rosmalen, which runs from June 11 to June 17, will be the site of his return, per Kevin Mitchell in the Guardian:
"I am looking forward to getting back on the grass and to play in Rosmalen [s'-Hertogenbosch] for the first time. I've heard lots of good things about the tournament and the courts are meant to be very good. It's the perfect way for me to prepare for Wimbledon."
Murray, 30, has been suffering from hip problems for some time and pulled out of the Australian Open at the beginning of the year in order to focus on making a full recovery, per Ben Burrows of The Independent.
He is now ready to return to court and, although he will also miss the French Open, the second Grand Slam event of the year, his focus is clearly on taking part in Wimbledon 2018.
The Libema Open is followed by Queen's, Murray's regular tune-up for Wimbledon and a tournament that he has won five times.
Per the Times' Stuart Fraser, he has confirmed he wants to play at Queen's:
Wimbledon gets under way this year on July 2, and Murray's aim will surely be to make it through to July 15's final and play for a third title in SW19.
However, it will be crucial that he can rediscover his match touch and fitness before the third Grand Slam of the year.
Murray's campaign last year, as he looked to defend his 2016 title, ended in painful fashion as he was beaten in five sets by Sam Querrey at the quarter-finals stage.
He was some way from his physical peak in the defeat to the American, and Murray will not want to endure a similar exit at this year's Wimbledon.
