Andrew Giuliani: Golf's Brand New Villain

Tom EdringtonOct 22, 2009

Golf has too many heroes.

What the game needs is a true villain. You know, someone you can really dislike. Some boorish, annoying guy who can turn you against him quickly, or in this case, a New York minute.

Golf finally has a prototype villain.

Enter young Andrew Giuliani. Yes, that Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York Mayor Rudy. If you looked up "spoiled rich kid with annoying personality," in the dictionary (do we still have them?), you'd find young Giuliani's picture staring at you.

Perhaps you've seen the show The Big Break on the Golf Channel . It's fairly entertaining and amusing. It's the golf equivalent of Survivor, the CBS reality monster.

The latest installment is Big Break Disney and the Golf Channel has itself a bona fide villain.

This is the same kid who sued Duke University in 2008 when he was booted off the Blue Devil golf team for bad behavior. He reportedly defied coaches, threw clubs, abused teammates and generally made a butthead of himself.

A Federal Magistrate recommended dismissal of the suit last May. Now, young Andy is looking for his big break on The Big Break.

Only two episodes into the series and he's already annoying the other contestants. Two players have been eliminated, but Giuliani's still in the mix.

What is transpiring is certainly more entertaining than the dreadful Grand Slam of Golf, this week in Bermuda. It was a new adventure in boredom.

Nothing boring about Big Break Disney. Not as long as young Andy is there.

He's easy to pick out. Just look for the guy you'll love to despise.
