Liverpool Transfer News: Adrien Rabiot Reportedly Uncertain About PSG Future

James DudkoMar 20, 2018

Adrien Rabiot is rumoured to be unsure about extending his contract with Paris Saint-Germain amid links to Premier League duo Liverpool and Arsenal.

A report from Le Parisien (h/t Le 10 Sport, via Calciomercato.com) has said Rabiot is unsure about his future with the Ligue 1 leaders.

However, Calciomercato explained "the news is that PSG want to keep their man at all costs, and are willing to make another try for it before his deal expires in June 2019."

The same source also noted how the midfielder is wanted by teams such as Arsenal and Liverpool.

Rabiot being on Liverpool's radar makes sense since his game embodies qualities Reds manager Jurgen Klopp features in his teams. The France international is a terrific passer, one who can create quick breaks with long balls over the top or keep possession moving between the lines with efficient and short-range distribution.

Technique and vision are in short supply in Liverpool's midfield since Philippe Coutinho joined Barcelona in the January transfer window. Adam Lallana's injury woes haven't helped the situation, while Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain has struggled for consistency since his summer switch from Arsenal.

It means the Reds have been left to rely on the brawn of Emre Can as well as the energy of Jordan Henderson and James Milner. What Klopp needs is a playmaker able to create chances from various areas of the pitch.

Rabiot fits the bill as a player who has matured into a cultured deep-lying pass-master during his time in the French capital. He has combined forward-thinking flair with keener defensive instincts, contributing five goals and seven assists for Les Parisiens this season.

However, not everybody is a fan of the 22-year-old. Goal's Robin Bairner was particularly critical of the player's temperament as PSG were eliminated from the Champions League at the last-16 stage by Real Madrid:

Klopp may feel he could inspire more consistency from one of France's brightest young talents. He'll also know how Liverpool's midfield is primed for a refresh.

Not only has Coutinho left, but Can could follow him, with the 24-year-old reportedly a target for Serie A giants Juventus. Giuseppe Marotta, general manager of the Bianconeri, told Mediaset Premium (h/t MailOnline's Danny Gallagher) the club is keen on the Germany international.

Naby Keita will arrive at Anfield from RB Leipzig in the summer, but Milner is now 32.

Tempting Rabiot to forego prolonging his stay at the Parc des Princes would be a smart move for a Liverpool side a few key moves short of being a genuine contender for next season's Premier League title.
