Jayson Werth hit his second and third homers of the NLCS to lead the Phillies to a 10-4 win over the Dodgers that enabled the Phillies to make their second consecutive trip to the World Series.

The Phillies are the 2009 NL champions after defeating the Dodgers 10-4 on Wedndesday night. They will be going to the World Series for the second year in a row after winning four of five NLCS games.

It was evident early that it wasn’t Vicente Padilla’s day as he was rocked for six runs in three innings including homers by Jason Werth and Pedro Feliz.

Cole Hamels gave up three homers before being removed with one out in the fifth inning. If it had been a regular season game Charlie Manuel may have left him in the game but he didn’t want to take the chance of Hamels blowing the lead.

Hamels has given up six homers in 14 postseason innings this year and his ERA skyrocketed to 6.75.

Clayton Kershaw gave up a two run homer to Shane Victorino that gave the Phillies a 8-3 lead after six innings. Kershaw had a 2.70 ERA in the NLDS but had a 9.45 ERA in the NLCS.

Chad Durbin took the win for the Phillies in relief.

Jayson Werth hit his second and third homers of the NLCS and his fifth in the postseason. Werth hit .222 in the NLCS batting 4-18 but three of his four hits were homers.

The Dodgers outhit the Phillies in the NLCS 38-36 but the Phillies outscored the Dodgers 35-16. Both teams struck out 33 times but the Phillies walked 23 times while Dodgers only walked 12 times.

The difference in the pitching really showed up in the ERA’s with the Dodgers having a 3.07 ERA while the Dodgers were posting a 7.38 ERA.

It was the second year in a row that the Phillies defeated the Dodgers in the NLCS.

Ryan Howard won the NLCS MVP award.
