WWE Rumors Roundup for Week of March 2 Ahead of Fastlane

Aaron BowerMar 2, 2018

WWE WrestleMania season may be fast approaching, but there are already rumors and speculation swirling about what the company may have in store beyond the biggest pay-per-view of the year on April 8.

This week, that talk is mostly focused on a guy who hasn't been seen in the company for a few months: Neville.

Read on for an update on whether the King of the Cruiserweights may ever be seen in WWE again.

Plus, there's also talk about the big match planned between John Cena and The Undertaker, as well as news on Brock Lesnar's contractual situation with the company.

Will he stay beyond WrestleMania?

All the latest is in this week's rumor roundup before Fastlane takes place on March 11.

News on Brock Lesnar's Raw Absence

1 of 3

Raw's Universal Championship picture was raised up a notch on Monday night.

Despite the champion being mysteriously absent, Roman Reigns delivered one of the best promos of his career, taking Lesnar apart on the mic to ramp up the hype for their WrestleMania bout.

But where was Lesnar? It was unclear whether he was a kayfabe no-show or whether he'd actually decided against coming.

Well, a report from Sports Illustrated's Justin Barrasso this week provided some insight. Apparently, Lesnar is "already over on his contractual dates" regarding his existing WWE deal.

The report also suggests it has been made clear to Lesnar he's dropping the Universal Championship at WrestleMania, and Lesnar is "far more interested in discussing his next contract than being a team player on his prior deal."

If that's true, it's no surprise we didn't see him on Monday night.

Undertaker Talk from Cena Just a Work?

2 of 3

In his quest for a road to WrestleMania 34, John Cena appeared to pour cold water on a dream match with The Undertaker on Raw this past Monday.

Cena publicly acknowledged that he would love to face The Deadman in a bout but said he'd been told that wouldn't happen, leaving fans wondering if it was all a work or whether Cena was legitimately putting out the flames.

Well, it sounds like it could be the former.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Randall Ortman at Cageside Seats) that for the time being, the match is still scheduled to happen.

Meltzer noted that Cena was, in fact, playing the crowd, trying to get them to believe this match wouldn't take place. But as recently as Monday night, the plans hadn't changed.

Cena vs. Taker is reportedly still very much on.

Is Neville Finally Returning to WWE?

3 of 3

It's going on six months since Neville was last seen on WWE television—but could that hiatus be finally coming to an end?

The former cruiserweight champion has been absent since reportedly leaving the company in October, but talks are apparently underway to bring the Englishman back.

That news comes via Dave Meltzer, who reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter (h/t Raj Giri at WrestlingInc) that Neville is back in talks over a return.

It's noted by Meltzer, though, that the chances of Neville coming back for WrestleMania 34 are in the balance. The report states that a probable date for a return would be "sometime in April."

But whether it's before 'Mania, at the show itself or after, it'll just be great to see the company and Neville patch up their differences and have him return. The cruiserweight division has missed its King.
