Lakers Rumors: Corey Brewer, LA Agree to Contract Buyout

Mike ChiariFeb 28, 2018

The Los Angeles Lakers and small forward Corey Brewer have reportedly agreed to a contract buyout, according to Shams Charania of The Vertical.

Marc Stein of the New York Times first reported the two sides were in "advanced negotiations."

Brewer, 31, is in his second season with the Lakers and averaging 3.7 points and 1.7 rebounds in 12.9 minutes per game.

The No. 7 pick in the 2007 draft out of Florida has played for five teams.

Brewer began his career with the Minnesota Timberwolves before stints with the Dallas Mavericks, Denver Nuggets, Timberwolves (again), Houston Rockets and Lakers.

L.A. acquired Brewer in the Lou Williams trade last season, and he produced 5.4 points, 2.2 rebounds and 1.5 assists per game in 24 contests.

The best stretch of Brewer's career came from 2012-13 through 2014-15, as he averaged 12.0 points, 3.0 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game across three seasons split between the Nuggets, Timberwolves and Rockets.

Brewer is chiefly a rotational player now, but he could come in handy for a contender in need of wing depth. He still plays solid perimeter defense and has a championship pedigree, helping Dallas win the 2011 NBA Finals and Florida capture back-to-back NCAA titles in 2006 and '07.

With Brewer out of the fold, it will likely mean even more playing time for Brandon Ingram and Kyle Kuzma given how thin L.A. is in depth.
