Lita's Most Memorable Matches, Moments in WrestleMania History
Lita may be among the most legendary women's wrestlers in WWE history, but her record at WrestleMania is anything but.
Lita retired with an 0-1 record at The Showcase of the Immortals. Her return at the 2018 Royal Rumble may open the door for another WrestleMania match down the road, but the odds of her wrestling again at WWE's biggest pay-per-view appear slim.
Still, Lita enjoyed more than her fair share of WrestleMania moments in spite of her lack of in-ring battles.
WrestleMania X8: Lita Falls Short in Only 'Mania Match
1 of 5Despite being one of the most important female wrestlers of her generation, Lita only wrestled once at WrestleMania, and it came with little fanfare.
Not only did the Triple Threat match for the WWF Women's Championship at WrestleMania X8 only last a little over six minutes, it came after The Rock vs. Hulk Hogan, which sent the Toronto crowd into a frenzy. This match was basically a means to let the fans cool off before the main event.
In retrospect, it's surprising Lita didn't have a bigger in-ring role at WrestleMania and that her one appearance was basically an afterthought on the card. She deserved a lot more, considering how much she helped shape women's wrestling in WWE.
WrestleMania 21: Lita Unable to Guide Christy Hemme to Victory
2 of 5Lita was still recovering from a torn ACL she suffered at New Year's Revolution 2005 when WrestleMania 21 rolled around.
Regardless of the injury, Lita's rivalry with Trish Stratus continued, as Christy Hemme filled in for what was almost certainly originally planned to be Lita vs. Stratus at WrestleMania 21.
Lita helped Edge become a world champion later on, but she was still a work in progress as a manager at this time. Hemme lost to Stratus in a little over four minutes. A visibly displeased Lita watched at ringside as her protege was unable to get the job done.
WrestleMania 22: Lita Aids Edge in Victory over Mick Foley
3 of 5Edge's victory over Mick Foley at WrestleMania 22 is one of the most grueling encounters in WrestleMania history, and Lita had a big role in the outcome.
A bloodied Foley had just finished grinding a barbed wire-covered bat against Edge's head before pouring lighter fluid on a table outside the ring. Before he could set the table ablaze, Lita hit him in the groin with the bat and lit the table on fire herself.
Edge speared Foley through the flaming table for the win.
Lita's attack on Foley illustrated how far she was prepared to go to help Edge in his climb to the top of WWE.
WrestleMania XXX: Lita Honored as a Hall of Famer
4 of 5Lita's on-screen role at WrestleMania XXX was brief, but it represented the culmination of her hard work inside the ring as she was honored alongside her fellow Hall of Fame inductees in the 2014 class.
The distinction was more than deserved, as Lita helped rejuvenate what was a stagnant women's division in the WWF in the mid-to-late 1990s.
With the arrival of Lita, Stratus, Jacqueline, Ivory, Molly Holly, Victoria and others, fans started taking women's wrestling seriously again. Lita's clash with Stratus on Dec. 6, 2004, was the first time a women's match had the main event slot of Raw.
Lita's Hall of Fame induction allowed fans to remember all over again why she's one of the greatest female wrestlers in WWE history.
WrestleMania 32: Lita Ushers in a New Era for the Women's Division
5 of 5As much as WWE tried to take the women's division in a different direction starting in the summer of 2015, legitimizing women's wrestling couldn't be achieved until the company dropped the label of "Divas" and ditched the Divas Championship—the infamous "butterfly belt."
During the WrestleMania 32 pre-show, Lita unveiled the brand new Women's Championship, which coincided with abandoning the "Divas" label altogether in favor of the women's division.
Charlotte became the first champion with the new belt after defeating Sasha Banks and Becky Lynch in a Triple Threat match at WrestleMania 32, which was one of the PPV's best matches.
Lita may have been a peripheral figure at WrestleMania 32, but the implications of her announcement and her symbolic importance to both that show and WWE going forward shouldn't be overlooked.
