
Eisen: MLB Considering Allowing Trailing Teams to Change Batting Order in 9th
MLB purists will probably rebuke the notion, but a league executive told Rich Eisen that some in baseball are discussing a new rule that allows managers to send whomever they want to the batter's box when their team is trailing in the ninth inning (h/t SI.com's Jimmy Traina).
According to the source, the manager could choose the players for the first three at-bats in the ninth only. That shake-up, however, would still put a closer or a starting pitcher going the distance in a difficult situation.
