Week Seven Fantasy Rankings: Top 15 Defenses

Eric StashinOct 21, 2009

We finish up our preliminary weekly rankings with a look at the Top 15 defenses for week seven.  I think the most interesting thing is that the top seven teams on here are playing on the road.  How often can we say that?  Let’s take a look at how things shape up:

  1. Indianapolis Colts - at St. Louis
  2. New England Patriots - at Tampa Bay
  3. Green Bay Packers - at Cleveland
  4. New York Jets - at Oakland
  5. Philadelphia Eagles - at Washington
  6. San Diego Chargers - at Kansas City
  7. New Orleans Saints - at Miami
  8. New York Giants - vs. Arizona
  9. Buffalo Bills - at Carolina
  10. Minnesota Vikings- at Pittsburgh
  11. Pittsburgh Steelers - vs. Minnesota
  12. Carolina Panthers - vs. Buffalo
  13. Chicago Bears - at Cincinnati
  14. San Francisco 49ers - at Houston
  15. Oakland Raiders - vs. New York Jets

  • The Colts have allowed the second fewest points in the league, while the Rams, decimated with injuries, have scored the fewest.  That seems like the perfect match-up, doesn’t it?
  • I know the Jets have been struggling the past few weeks, but this is the Raiders offense we’re talking about.  While the Eagles managed to make JaMarcus Russell look like a superstar last week, expect the Jets to blitz him early and often on Sunday.
  • It wasn’t the Chargers defense that watched Eddie Royal take both a kickoff and a punt the distance on Monday night.  Not that they’ve played tremendously this season, but this is the Kansas City Chiefs, one of the ten worst scoring offenses in the league, we’re talking about.
  • Where exactly do we rank the Giants defense?  They certainly are usable in any format, but after watching Drew Brees torch them last week you have to be worried that Kurt Warner is going to do the same.
  • I know Mark Sanchez has been struggling, but that doesn’t mean I’d recommend using the Raiders defense if you can avoid it.

What are your thoughts?  Who was left off the list?  Who should be higher?  Who should be lower?
