Super Bowl Odds 2018: Money Line, Over/Under, Latest Eagles vs. Patriots Spread

Steve SilvermanJan 30, 2018

The New England Patriots remain the favorites in the Super Bowl, but the Philadelphia Eagles have shaved two points off the spread since the betting line opened after the AFC and NFC title games.

The Patriots are 4.5-point favorites according to OddsShark in Super Bowl LII as they compete for the sixth Super Bowl title in franchise history, while the Eagles are attempting to win their first NFL championship since 1960 and their first Super Bowl title.

The Eagles have rebounded nicely from two miserable offensive performances in Weeks 16 and 17 of the regular season against the Oakland Raiders and Dallas Cowboys. Nick Foles is coming off a 352-yard, three-TD performance in the 38-7 destruction of the Minnesota Vikings in the NFC title game.

The Patriots rebounded from a 10-point deficit in the fourth quarter to lead New England to a 24-20 victory over the Jacksonville Jaguars in the AFC Championship Game. Tom Brady is basically expected to lead his team back from a deficit in big games.

If Foles does not take a step back after his strong showing against Minnesota, this should be a game where both offensive teams have the upper hand.

Philadelphia has a strong defense and ranked fourth in yards allowed during the regular season, but keeping most opponents in check and slowing down Brady and the Pats are two different things.

Dion Lewis is an underrated weapon for New England.

The versatility of the New England offense makes the Patriots very difficult to defend. Running back Dion Lewis does just enough in the running game to force opposing defenses to respect that aspect of the attack. Lewis ran for 896 yards and averaged 5.0 yards per carry.

Not only can the Patriots run the ball, they will run it in certain passing situations, and they will throw the ball often in running situations.

The Pats have three capable receivers in Danny Amendola, Chris Hogan and Brandin Cooks, and if tight end Rob Gronkowski (concussion) is able to play, the plethora of weapons will make it difficult for Philadelphia's defense. Gronkowski practiced Saturday, so it is likely that he will be able to play against the Eagles.

The Eagles have a pair of capable running backs in Jay Ajayi and ex-Patriot LeGarrette Blount. While they are not likely to cause a lot of damage with big plays, Blount is capable of punishing New England's 28th-ranked defense with his power.

Alshon Jeffery is a tall, long-armed receiver who can turn 50-50 balls into a much more favorable 90-10 ratio. Tight end Zach Ertz is a dependable receiver who has turned seven of his 11 postseason receptions into first downs, while Nelson Agholor and Torrey Smith are both capable secondary receivers.

The total in this game is 48 points, and the over seems to be the way to go.

The Pats are minus-175 on the money line to win the game, while the Eagles are plus-155 to come away with the victory. A Patriots backer must risk $175 to recoup his original bet and win $100, while an Eagles bettor will risk $100 to win $155.

It's difficult to see Foles and the Eagles outplaying Brady and the New England offense in the late stages of a close game. However, the Eagles have the weapons on both sides of the ball to cause major problems throughout and turn this into a back-and-forth game.

Look for the Pats to get the last score and earn their sixth Super Bowl championship.
