Report: Arsenal Interested in Summer Move for Atletico Madrid's Yannick Carrasco

Christopher SimpsonJan 30, 2018

Arsenal are reportedly interested in signing Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid this summer.

According to Mundo Deportivo (h/t The Sun's Livvi Sefton), manager Arsene Wenger has tracked the Belgium international for some time and is prepared to splash out £44 million for his services this summer, albeit that only amounts to half his buyout clause.

The Gunners have parted with Alexis Sanchez and Theo Walcott this month, while new arrival Henrikh Mkhitaryan is perhaps more suited to replace Mesut Ozil if he leaves at the expiration of his contract in the summer, rather than the other two.

Carrasco appears to have fallen out of favour somewhat at the Wanda Metropolitano this season. He has made 26 appearances but only started half of those, and he has completed 90 minutes on just four occasions.

The winger has provided six assists in all competitions and found the net four times, with three goals coming in La Liga.

While that may not seem particularly impressive, Los Rojiblancos haven't been especially spectacular going forward this season despite being second—their top scorer in La Liga is Antoine Griezmann with just seven goals, and he has played almost 700 more minutes in the competition than Carrasco.

The 24-year-old is a pacy and direct player who looks to beat defenders with his impressive dribbling skill, per WhoScored.com:

He normally plays on the left, but he can also fill in on the right or in the centre when needed, and that kind of versatility is always a helpful trait for sides hoping to compete on multiple fronts.

While Carrasco may not be quite as productive as Sanchez in front of goal, he's an excellent player who could make a fine addition to Arsenal's squad.
