Oakland Raiders: Buckle Up Your Chinstraps, Something Is Going On

Honor Warren Wells TheTorch@dbintayaelSenior Writer IIOctober 21, 2009

The people around me will tell you that I document everything. Now that I am doing research on the history of the Oakland Raiders, I document and seek to understand as much as I can.

As a member of the Raider Nation, and as a Bleacher columnist, I keep my digital camera, Olympus recorder, and ACER laptop with me at all times.

Preparation to record the history, and unusual events in the journey of the Oakland Raiders' uphill climb to their zenith is a part of my mission.

I can not do it alone. I invite you to join me, and to join Shawn who has a brilliant idea for this week's theme: Buckle up your chinstraps!

I admit that my imagination is vivid. But, I and others also look at the probabilities of events in and around our lives. We look at probabilities around the history of the Oakland Raiders.

We see patterns. Some of those patterns are about to be broken. New patterns are going to be set in place, soon. Here is a situation that intrigues me and others.

Everyone has heard about that pigeon on the football field, and I would say, the pigeon helped usher the Oakland Raiders to victory.

There are others who were similarly impressed. In fact, one of our outstanding writers changed his logo to commemorate the unusual "pigeon" event on the football field.

While doing my research this afternoon, I mentioned the unusual situation to an 86-year-young wise woman. She, too, saw something deeper in the presence of the bird on the field. I took time and showed her the video.

I could see that she saw deeper, too. She insisted I do more research.

Then, it was time for me to return to my own dwelling. As I exited the door of the location and walked toward my car, I looked down. A feather lay near the front of my car on the drivers' side, which was under a carport.

I visit this location four or five times a week. I have never seen any bird near that carport. But, today, Oct. 20, 2009, there lay a feather.

Well, again, I document everything. I started to leave the feather. Then, something inside of me, just would not let me leave it. So, I picked it up, laid it on my Bible, and then took out my digital camera and took the picture shown above.

One of my Bleacher colleagues asked me to do more research on the "pigeon." He even said he may do the research.

At about 8:30 pm CDT, the time I saw the feather, I decided to research "feathers" and the meaning. I always search both secular and sacred literature to get a full view of those things around all of us.

The most powerful words of wisdom I discovered are these:

"He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler." Ps. 91:4

I will now apply this wisdom to the Oakland Raiders team for they are the ones who experienced an event which will be recorded in history.

It goes like this:

"He shall cover the Oakland Raiders with his feathers, and under his wings shalt the Oakland Raiders trust: his truth shall be their shield and buckler."

One thing you must know is the "shield and buckler" are equipment for an aggressive encounter.

I truly believe that something is going on.

A turnaround is occurring.

There is an inversion from negative to positive, from failures to successes, from a nadir to a zenith.

There is a change in countenance, in attitude, and in the swagger of the Oakland Raiders.

There is a display of confidence, commitment, and camaraderie.

There is the cohesion, fortitude and courage to align performance with talent and potential.

The Oakland Raiders are awakened. The Oakland Raiders are back.

For those of you who understand deeper things, please join our Bleacher friend who asked us to join him and say, "Buckle up your chinstraps."

This is our cheer for this week: "Buckle up your chinstraps."

Why not say it 300 times, collectively? It would symbolize the episode in Gideon's mission to save Israel. He started with 32,000 men, but only 300 were truly equipped in attitude, behavior and alertness to go to war with Gideon.

Join us, and show your support for the Oakland Raiders. Say or write: BUCKLE UP YOUR CHINSTRAP!!!
