Vince McMahon on Tim Tebow Possibly Playing in XFL: 'He Could Very Well Play'

With Vince McMahon's announcement of the XFL's 2020 revival, Tim Tebow may have found a new outlet to get back on a football field. 

Answering a question from Sports Illustrated's Jimmy Traina about Tebow, McMahon said Tebow could play in the XFL if he wants to:

Per ESPN's Darren Rovell, McMahon will be the sole funding source for the new league that will consist of eight teams from cities around the United States playing a 10-week schedule. 

The XFL doesn't have any players or teams yet, but McMahon did address some of the traits it will look for in its athletes. 

"We are evaluating a player based on many things, including the quality of human being they are," McMahon said. "If you have any sort of criminal record or commit a crime, you aren't playing in this league."

A first-round pick by the Denver Broncos in 2010, Tebow hasn't appeared in an NFL game since 2012, when he suited up for the New York Jets. He played for the Philadelphia Eagles during the 2015 preseason before being released during final roster cutdowns. 

Since September 2016, Tebow has been playing minor league baseball in the New York Mets' system. The 30-year-old hit .226/.309/.347 with eight home runs in 126 games across two levels last season.
