Wednesday Recap
It was Pliskova who enjoyed the stronger start in her clash with Halep, as she broke the world No. 1 on the way to a 3-0 lead, and she had a break point for 4-0 after three double-faults from her opponent.
After eventually holding following four deuces, the momentum shifted in Halep's favour as she rattled off nine games in a row to take the first set and a commanding lead in the second.
Eurosport UK offered an example of the high-level play she was producing along the way:
From there, Pliskova could offer little resistance, with her serve broken five times in total across the two sets. Per the Open's official website, the sixth seed won just 30 of the 64 points played on her serve.
The Grand Slam's Twitter account shared Halep's impressive numbers:
Kerber looked strong as she dismissed Keys easily, dropping just three games along the way.
The American had enjoyed a positive tournament until this stage, but some loose play handed Kerber the initiative from the outset.
The German broke her six times overall, letting slip on her own serve just once, and then continued her outstanding start to 2018.
Indeed, as Record's Jose Morgado noted, all four semi-finalists in the women's bracket have been strong this year:
An early break handed Chung the lead in the first set against Sandgren, a lead he maintained until he drew first blood.
The pair went back and forth in the second, with Chung taking a 2-0 lead before the American battled back to 5-3, only for it to head to a tiebreaker in which the Korean came out on top.
Chung again looked the stronger in the third set, but he was made to work for his victory after allowing Sandgren to come back from 0-40 down in the final game.
Meanwhile, Federer outclassed Berdych:
By contrast, the Czech hit just 22 winners over the course of the match as he struggled to get close to Federer for much of it.
Berdych had started the match well but was unable to close out the opener despite earning two set points, and after Federer roared back to win the tiebreaker, the contest was only going one way.
